Master Class 3: Creating Killer Copy
what is up everybody yes hey hola Carlos amigo happy Halloween happy Halloween and welcome back to the Bing ads boot camp 2.0 let’s see what we got going on here hello Charles Carlos says hi Brad good evening good evening Senor Carlos no sound yet ha ha ha hola parce eros I don’t know what that means but I’m guessing maybe gecko no eat wanna oh I don’t know what an owl is I don’t know so alright Charles says what’s up two screens today hell yeah it means friends Oh means friends what uh in meta-gene okay like paisa friends specifically thank you very much for coming I know it’s kind of last minute again and it’s Halloween so maybe you know some people won’t be able to make it but they’ll be able to watch on the replays and yeah I’m glad to have you guys here so I have with me Connor Boyland he’s a very good friend and business partner in another venture also very expert copywriter and he’s gonna help us talk about some conversion stuff for writing better ads landing pages headlines email copy a little bit so we’re just gonna talk about conversion and copywriting tonight Connor Connor is one of the best in the world he’s an expert so I just wanted to share some of his knowledge with you guys and also want to update some stuff and the the Bing campaigns that we started before and also as always feel free to ask your questions that makes the conversation a little more lively and will help a lot of other people who watch this in the future so the people here happy how have your campaign’s been going have you been able to get up and running make any conversions yet so we’re gonna talk about creating killer copy ads landing pages and opt-ins that convert and first I want to update you on a couple of campaigns first off the one of the test campaigns that we started on the stream actually got a conversion which was pretty surprising to me because it only had two clicks but I still wanted to share that with you guys because it’s pretty cool to see something working you know obviously we’re not like going at at full force here but just from just from the test that we set up just in the class it got a conversion so you can see here if you remember we set up this tactical pen campaign and I believe it was just direct linking so let’s check that out yeah so it’s just direct linking on Clickbank and at first it was kind of taking a little bit to get some traffic going to it it within the first couple days it only had like I set two clicks but one of those two clicks actually converted into a six dollar sale so that’s pretty pretty awesome because at that point we had only spent I think about 50 cents and made five dollars not too bad and since then it’s gotten nine clicks and we’ve spent 272 so we’re still positive on that campaign so far and we haven’t really done anything even like try to scale it up or anything like that so pretty good start also I wanted to take this opportunity to show everybody who’s watching some of the things that some of the features that clickmagick provides when you’re doing affiliate marketing so you can see here in the tactical pen thing here campaign there’s this little column that says s that’s for sales so you can see it gives you a conversion rate here and an EPC that’s your earnings per click seventy two cents so far you can see because I set this up with Clickbank it tracks all the revenue that comes through the Clickbank account back to clickmagick and most importantly it tracks some extra data like this here it tracks because of the way that we set up the ad it actually tracks the exact phrase that was typed in the exact search query that was typed in to trigger this conversion and then so it was a it was survival pen that was the phrase that triggered this conversion and then the e means it was an exact match for survival pen so it said exactly survival pen the C means it was on a computer you can also see that reflected here that were using Safari and Mac os10 the O means it’s part of the original network which means it’s either part of Bing or AOL or MSN it’s not part of the syndicated network also gives you a URL that it came from I don’t I guess that that’s just the Clickbank link so that’s not really that relevant and an IP address so this is all really good information to have obviously we need when you start getting lots of more committed commissions and conversions this becomes much more important to be able to stay on top of which keywords are actually working and this is why we use Clickbank special or a clickmagick especially if we’re gonna do direct linking so I wanted to show all that with you guys you can see this is the click ID I believe oh no that’s that shows up as the the t ID in quick bank so we can see some other information here we can see that the you know it happened from the US it also happened in the state of Oregon so for example if you’re running a campaign you started seeing that almost all your sales we’re coming from one state then you could optimize by you know creating an ad group that only focused on that state it’s good information have and just generally with this campaign it’s starting to pick up a little a little steam here so at first it was pretty slow only had a couple of clicks and even now it’s only up to nine but so far it’s profitable so I mean I would leave it running the click-through rates over you know one percent there to three percent that’s fine the conversion was made on the Bing network so it actually we know that it came from this ad group Quality Score eight out of ten that’s good click-through rate almost four percent that’s fine to ten so actually we’ve spent to ten and made you know six dollars back I believe that offer has a continuity program too so it’s possible that if if you could continue to profit and breakeven just on the front every once in a while somebody would sign up for the continuity I think and then you’d become more and more profitable so all just a really good sign for starting out a campaign but over here the syndicated is also starting to pick up a little bit it’s gotten a couple of clicks but the ping ones getting more so we can dig in and look at some of the keywords that are getting traction and this is just this is how I would like scale up any this is how I would manage any campaign I would just start looking into what keywords are starting to show for the for the ads and what is being telling me about them so they’re telling me some of these keywords that if I want to get on the front page I have to increase the bid so for this you know to go from 30 to 31 cents that’s no big deal so I’ll gladly do that this one says if you go to 42 cents you’ll get more traffic okay that’s fine and once we start getting more traffic we can start dialing in more here says 31 cents totally fine you can see this is tactical in self defense the exact match so we’re getting impressions for that we’re getting the most impressions for the broad match of tactical pen but nobody’s clicked on it yet the exact match of tactical pen it has a two point one three percent click-through rate it’s gotten 47 impressions and that is actually no that’s not where our conversion our conversion came from survival pin so this right here this exact match 30 cent bid one of these two clicks converted so actually if you really dig into the campaign we know that that sale came from 58 cents so actually we spent 58 cents to make six dollars so that’s how you can you can get so much more data once you start running these campaigns that’s why it’s not all that useful to try to plan everything out ahead of time because you need to just let it run and see what actually happens so these are some of the things that I’m looking at here that I would adjust is just if it’s saying that the first page bid is just slightly higher then I’m fine with doing that so this one strike pen it’s an exact match as well so it’s saying 38 cents you don’t want to go to too much higher on broad matches because those can get really out of hand but if it’s an exact or a phrase match because there are a lot more or control you can bump them up a little bit just to start getting so this one says taser we found out last time that Bing doesn’t approve weapons related things there’s actually a lot of disapproved keywords they’re all weapons related so no problem but hey we’ve got some we’ve got some profitable keywords in here and the ad is not very spectacular it’s just free tactical patent the world’s greatest it’s really not all that that’s special but it is exactly what they’re searching for so that’s good do you guys have any questions about this I believe Charles you were going to try a similar campaign I’m wondering if you got that to go and how it went the other campaigns really haven’t gotten many clicks either I kind of thought that might be the case especially with the fat burning diet I mean I’ve tried to get traffic in that niche before from being it’s just pretty competitive so um I wouldn’t give up on it though you just have to keep adding more keywords until you find out the ones that you can actually get I mean this one got you know three percent click-through rate that’s not terrible so that’s not too bad I had it a couple just to see if I could get some more broad traffic here but I just added them today so this is the one we added last time I haven’t gotten any traffic on these either so I tried this one this is a like a max bounty offer that the affiliate manager said works well on bing so I I want to see what’s going on in that niche there’s a lot of keyword traffic and it the keyword tool said it wasn’t very competitive but it kind of looks like it is okay so we can check here so I put in a bunch of different keywords and now Bing is telling me well you got it you got a bit a little bit higher they could keep going with this too so this one says for a broad match it says no to be able to get more impressions you’re gonna have to go up to 45 cents I might not do that for a broad I might go like 35 and see what happens phrase match I’m fine going up you know some number of cents now this one is an exact match so must be pretty valuable because they’re saying to get on the first page you have to go all the way up to 52 cents so maybe I would but maybe I would just go to 40 we’re still getting impressions it’s just it’s giving you a good estimate of you know how to get more impressions Charles says I had to fix my site I did start another one okay cool just keep at it um so this one I added some more broad match campaigns just to see if I could get some traffic rolling it still it seems like it’s pretty competitive so kind of just slowly building up by bidding a little bit higher a little bit higher and then I just added these other ones today so they probably won’t have too much traffic but maybe by the end of the night or by the end of the call there might be some impressions coming in so I wanted update you all on that and show you I mean really how easy it is to get started if you just take action and follow the steps and then then you can start working on optimizing these campaigns so today we are talking about conversion about copywriting basically the two pieces of every successful business really anywhere but definitely online are traffic and conversion so traffic obviously by taking this course you are getting very very good at you know at least one way to pretty predictably drive lots of traffic to you know any business or website or YouTube video or opt-in or whatever so you’re by being in the in this training you’re getting really really good at traffic you are understanding how to control the traffic how to guess where how much traffic it might be available how to target and and you know direct it into a specific place but today we want to talk about conversion which is kind of the other side of the coin and in online marketing conversion is more commonly known as copywriting which is basically when I first learned that word I didn’t really know what that meant it’s basically just writing words that that help people to make a buying decision so it’s like a focused type of writing that isn’t necessarily about grammar and vocabulary but it’s about creating emotions inside of people that make them long by right yeah how would you define copyright yeah no you nailed it okay it’s it’s uh I wouldn’t even define it like that because it makes it sound really hard yeah you’re right you’re it’s just a little I’m trying to like sound smart yeah in front of you it’s a really it’s a really simplified way of just communicating a sale I mean it’s salesmanship in print that’s how the help the writing is so if you wanted to sell something before we had computers or like letters you would just talk to someone face to face and you’d persuade them to buy what you had copywriting is just a way of taking a really good sales pitch and delivering it to a ton of people at once because you wrote it down or put it into a video pre-recorded but it’s just selling if you get it persuade somebody in front of you to buy something but then also edit a few words to make it tighter that’s that’s all right so some two is it depends it’s not always emotional it’s just whatever gets people to yeah right yeah it just gets their attention communicates the benefit of whatever the offer is and compels them to take action on it [Music] so Carlos says working for more than eight years in a newspaper I’m convinced that the headline and photo sell a new definitely I mean especially today well I know I guess you’re right even forever newspapers have understood that images also do a lot of cell selling so Charles says during the Bing webinar they explained broad match was important for catching trends the keyword planners missed that’s a very good point Charles I actually just created a video today that’s going in the members area about exactly that it’s called a warning about keyword tools so that’s probably exactly that’s why keyword tools aren’t the only way to find profitable keywords because they’re kind of trail behind what people are searching for so that’s a very good point now Bing is also very likely to just always suggest that you add more and more broad keywords because that makes them more money but yes that is a very good point and something that people don’t always understand because you know the keyword tool makes so much sense you’re like oh perfect this tool tells me everything I need to know but then it also creates limitations for you you might think Oh nobody’s searching for this so I shouldn’t try to create ads I shouldn’t you know try to bid on these keywords because they don’t exist but they actually can exist it’s kind of a weird thing that you know you have to have experience to realize but really really good point Charles also says I learned about pitching and remove people’s frames in my speed reading classes this weekend Wow remove removed people’s frames that’s interesting so some psychology stuff sounds awesome Charles you’ve just done a learning extravaganza it’s pretty fun so when we’re talking about Bing ads then copy really comes in to play in a few different places one is obviously the ad so I actually think that copywriting isn’t super important at this point I guess my impression of copywriting was that you had to create some sort of magical ad and what I found out through experience at least with Google and Bing is that you really don’t have to create a magical ad which is good news the magical had the good copywriting in Bing and Google at least at the ad level is literally in my experience the best thing to do is just to take whatever they search for word and the keyword and put it in the ad that’s like it makes the search engine happy it gets really high click-through rate etc now where copy writing is very important is everything that happens after the click so before or during the click the ad in my experience on the Bing platform and on and on AdWords it’s really not that special it’s not about creating some you know magical emotion like even like I was saying before it’s really just about relevance that’s the one word that you need to remember when you want to write ads in Bing is just relevance how relevant is it to what that person searched for so you can see in this example our keywords are you know we created a very tight ad group that’s all based just around the keywords tactical pen survival pen they don’t get too far away from that and and so the ad really just has to say whatever they’re searching for I mean the world’s greatest that could probably be improved that was just you know I was on the call and I just needed something there but whatever it made us say hello so obviously didn’t have to be all that great plus free is you know really compelling as well but the most that’s so in my opinion add the ads aren’t really that important but the best way to get ideas for what you might want to write in the ad is to do what we call ad hacking which you probably are familiar with and there should be a blueprint here in the members area just re explaining the concept but you can basically go look in the Bing search and we already did this before as well but it’s always the best way to get you know exactly what you should say in your ad is just look at what other people in that niche are putting in their hat so for example I just was trying to look for another product here from Clickbank to to create some traffic to and I saw this power efficiency guide I looked at the stats I did some keyword research and it looks like it’s trending pretty hard it kind of went from it doesn’t exist to it seems to be trending right now July August September 2000 searches a month and searches for just power efficiency guides so people are searching for that actual product so I just created a little ad campaign for it power efficiency guide but what I noticed I went in and I typed that keyword this keyword into Bing doing doing some ad hacking here and I typed in power efficiency guide and the first ad that came up what are they emphasizing with this well obviously we’re trying to target the the product itself we’re not really speaking to the whole niche we’re really just targeting people who already know about the product and they’re looking for reviews or something so when I typed that in the first ad it just says official get 85% off today or now so if you’re just promoting a product then and you look you know this says review does it really work so these are two things that are important to somebody who’s searching for the name of a product right that they’re getting a discount that they need a review does it really work I’m guessing this one goes to a review page and this one goes like right to the sales page this says this has a price on it $19 only 71% off today so discounts seem really important if you’re searching for just a product price seems really important the name of the product seems really important but that’s always true so yeah that’s one example of AD hacking we’ve already done some some ad hacking in different niches but basically you always just want to if you’re investigating a niche just look into that niche and see what people are searching for if you’re looking for a dog walking near me then you can see you know what your competition is here what they’re emphasizing 10 best dog walking services let’s look at locksmith 24/7 that seems really important for locksmiths professionals that you probably need to trust them to open your your car 24/7 emergency so that’s probably when people call them call locksmith is when it’s an emergency the lock and key professionals $35 so you can put the price in there two-minute dispatch so they’re telling you don’t worry it won’t take very long so really add hacking is you know the way that you’re gonna get your your copywriting ideas so combine ad hacking with relevancy trick the relevancy trick basically just feed the keywords back to them that they’re searching for word if they’re searching for emergency locksmith then you should definitely make an ad that says emergency locksmith now the reason I want to have Connor on here is to talk about what happens after the ad so the ad in my opinion is pretty simple to write you just combine put the keyword in the ad especially in the headline and then as many times as you can also in the rest of the ad and that’s a pretty good ad for Bing it doesn’t have to be crazy doesn’t have to like have some super magical copywriting powers or whatever it just has to basically say what whatever it is they’re searching for give it to them now what happens after the page on like your landing page or your opt-in is a different story so that’s the ad hacking so let’s talk about headlines in general cool so you’ve probably written thousands of headlines in your life what’s how do you start writing ad line well what’s the strategy here you’re you’re sending Bing ads to a landing page and then to an affiliate offer to your own offer or what well it could be either okay so most people are affiliate marketers so let’s assume okay they’re psyched who they just clicked on an ad yeah and now they’re on a landing page so same thing you just said earlier you definitely want to keep it congruent to what they just clicked on okay that’s definitely like landing page rule number one is that I saw this really interesting study the other day that describes people’s browsing behavior online as a hub and people go out looking for certain answers by clicking through different links and they there’s a hub that they start on so it’d be like Facebook or Google or in this case Bing and then they branch out from there looking for you know what was that say free tactical pen yeah so they would click on that ad and it would sort of lead them towards a promise of a free pen but if at any point in that journey from the ad to the landing page to the offer if at any point they get the feeling that they’re not on the right track they bail and leave the page and go back to the place they started which beeping and they’ll keep doing that repeatedly till they get what they’re looking for so the first thing you got to do on a landing page is really make it obvious that they’re on the right track to get what they’re looking for so they click to get a pen free my free tactical pen that’s got to be really obvious in the headline that you’re promising them a free tactical pen and here now the details and bullet points of what it is not the sexiest copywriting but a lot of people get too into their copy and writing headlines and they forget just to remind the person hey you’re in the right place yeah so yes step one is just to call out in whatever whatever they clicked on just keep that same copy so that they know that they’re on the right track and they’ll keep reading and keep going because if at any point they feel like they’re not they’ll bail and just leave the page that’s awesome because that’s literally what the search engines want right though that’s what being in Google reward if someone clicks that’s that’s exactly what you’re supposed to have they want somebody to click on an ad that is exactly what they search for basically and then when they land on the page it should be exactly what they’re looking for right and the search engines can tell because they they can track the whole process so they know when that person clicks what they end up doing and they actually measure how long they stay on the page right so that’s their measurement of success or how many actions they take on the next page right so if someone comes to this page and they immediately leave that’s called a bounce and so if the bounce rate is too high that will lower your quality score in the ads so what you’re saying that’s like good technique good copy is also what exactly what Bing rewards with quality score so they want you as an advertiser to do exactly what you just said yes so that’s a good just real simple fundamental concept to keep in mind and it should make writing the copy for the stuff easier right because you started with a keyword you made an ad based on the keyword same concept with the headline on the landing page it’s all congruent to the intention of the person that’s searching for whatever you know the pen or whatever it is they’re searching for it right also in terms of a landing page design if you’ve got like multiple pages obviously these are just text ads right it’s not a banner ad correct so if you were making banner ads you might have an image like a creative they call it right this is just text so there’s no formatting there’s no look to it it’s always going to look the same but if you have more than one landing page you want to make sure they all look the same and have the same color scheme and same layout and it’s not you know it’s really simple and straightforward for the same reason so that they know they’re on the right track and this is definitely a good idea to keep stay on this page other things what kind of landing pages this is it going to sell something or is it just an opt-in or what so this particular landing page is kind of like a pre sell landing page okay we’re direct linking to it but then their strategy so this is different than like a video sales letter right right so like if we go to the flat belly fix they’re doing us they’re doing a video sales letter so that like kind of explained I guess the difference between the different types of landing yeah sure so if your mailing if you’re sending clicks straight to this page a video sales letter yeah this page is designed to convert if it were into converts it should be converting cold traffic right it’s the top product on Clickbank it’s probably doing so probably is converting cold traffic yet so it’s designed to take a person that’s never heard of this brand or what they’re offering or anything else they’re completely cold and grab their attention right from the start it looks like they’re starting with a story which is usually a good lead you know people get caught up in stories they’re compelling and they don’t sound like a sales pitch you know and this will probably go on for the next 45 minutes and pitch them on the product and they’re hoping to convert a certain percentage of people that land on this page and customers and probably halfway through the video when they start announcing the price a little bi button will appear and they’ll have a chance to buy so I mean your guys aren’t designing this page there just mailing to the right or sending adds to it right like we are we trying to help them design the page between sometimes yeah we could do that yeah because if you’re just mailing if you’re sorry I’m mail a lot so I just yeah I’m saying the word to email but you’re getting you guys are doing PPC ads yeah so if you’re doing ads straight to an affiliate offer you don’t have to design any landing page correct but that is the so there are different strategies one is direct linking which is sending directly to the offer but sometimes it converts better to create an opt-in and build a list and then send to the affiliate offers and then other times it converts better to create a pre sell landing page so I wanted to talk about all three yeah let’s talk about all three so direct linking is the easiest because you don’t have to do create any page right but it’s probably gonna be involved more testing and money on your part because you’ll have to figure out the exact ad and source that works yeah for that particular offer and you have one control an awesome skill you’re teaching them right really valuable that’s all I’d before the click right naturally you’re you can’t control the landing page I’ve already there you just have to come up with the best traffic from Bing that’s going to convert for that offer yeah so you’d start with the offer and kind of match it up the keywords and find the best way right probably just involves testing right yes okay um and keyword research and keyword rich so you start with the keywords that are most likely but that’s what we talked about earlier yeah evil ass so the other two are one you would have a landing page that pre cells that VSO right so I know a lot of times for luck dating traffic they did this because a lot of mainstream ad sources don’t like you to mail directly to certain offers and so a lot of marketers will do a pre sell page before that so they’re not mailing directly to the offer because maybe Bing won’t let you at Google won’t let you they mail to a landing page in between that takes them from completely cold and kind of warms them up first before they hit the offer page so uh tedswoodworking right now is the number two product uncle Bank on a lot of affiliate resource pages they will offer you what Connor just mentioned they will offer you some different options that’s good yeah so they lens I’ve seen a lot that are they look like fake news article or like a health journal a lot of health offers do that actually I’ll show you one from max bounty this one right so this here’s here’s an example actually of so this is an offer that I found on max bounty that they said is working well and being I haven’t been able to get traffic to it yet but so this is the the normal landing page right or a sales page for a for a supplement right and then also as an affiliate you can promote there oh yeah how do I lose it tracking it you can promote the pre sell landing page yes so this is what you were just talking about yeah it’s a blog this is like a news article but then find out more yeah and that should be coded as the affiliate right yeah that particular button and then it goes to the sales pin right so sometimes and that’s also a direct sales page the offer is right up front there’s no intro the via sell via showed us earlier had like a whole story to lead into the offer this one is more just hey this is what it is buy it here’s all the benefits yeah and so it can be really effective for those types of things to give them information upfront so that they they arrive on the sales letter already knowing why they need it okay so a good pre-sale page is going to give them some compelling information that educates them on the problem like this is about what joint pain yes so here’s a bunch of tips so they’re searching for things related to joint pain yes they’re obviously going to want to read this because it’s telling them and educating them about joint pain a breakthrough the doctors discovered you know somebody and that’s dealing with joint pain it’s gonna want to read that and by the time they through this article and pick up some information this is designed to show them why they need was that flex well yeah you know they’re telling them hey doctors have this breakthrough and you need to know about it and by the way we designed a product based off that breakthrough if you want the benefits here’s where you can get it so instead of just saying buy the supplement they’re teaching them a reason why they need it okay it’s just just that’s a really good way to warm up someone from completely cold to warm on this offer because now there’s a reason for them to want to buy that so compared to any other thing that they might do so this is an example of a pre sell page that the affiliate network gives you the people who made this offer they give you an option but sometimes programs don’t offer you so I’ll show you again Ted’s Woodworking also offers some some different landing pages as well so like this 50 free plans you can send your you can send your traffic to this is actually an opt-in page so I guess we’ll talk about that in a second but the other option here is that you can create your own presale pages so if you use something like builder all or clickfunnels or optimized press that we’ve talked about then you can actually create a pre sell landing page they call it a bridge page usually and they have some templates for that too and you can use the same things that Connor just talked about for creating like the headlines basically just make sure that they know they’re in the right place they’re getting exactly what they just clicked on but they search for it all kind of makes sense to them let’s look for bridge see if we can find a bridge page guess not [Music] I just saw one here so like this this one here this is basically I mean it’s an opt-in page but it’s kind of like a bridge page it’s basically like you could send somebody to this and just you know you can build your own is what I’m trying to say you can build your own pre-sell landing page and it might convert better than you know you can build your own version of this using builder all or click our click funnels or optimizepress you could literally just model this like don’t copy it but especially if you’re promoting this product specifically you have to check each affiliate offers like terms but if you’re promoting this product specifically they probably would allow you to use like some of these pictures a lot of the copy so that’s one cool thing as an affiliate is you don’t always have to like invent copy it’s kind of there for you yeah that’s what you do to like you’ve managed email lists and you have to promote products sometimes for your clients that you don’t know anything about when you first get it but you just that you’re told well we have to promote this right yeah definitely so you have to go figure out you you have to reverse engineer what they’re doing right yeah you have to do all of this yeah so I don’t usually write a lot of these type articles but I’m not sending the pay-per-click cold traffic ether yeah but anytime I have to write a landing page for an offer that’s not mine and I don’t have total control over the offer but maybe it’s my email list too more you know I want to do something to improve the reason you’d write a landing page for an affiliate offer that’s not yours is just to improve your odds of converting yeah and get a little bit more control and if you had an opt-in page or a way to capture emails as well to give you a chance to follow up and have multiple points to make the sale so if you’re spending this money on traffic to an offer if your direct linking you’ve got one shot to make that sale and then if they buy or don’t you know that was it yeah and you know even if the affiliate is capturing their emails they probably I never trust that once an email goes on an affiliates list that’ll still be cookie to me yeah you’re giving up control yeah a lot of affiliates will say hey if you send our opt-in we’ll make sure that you stay cookie does the affiliate for a number of days but I don’t I’ve seen that not work a lot yeah they’re just a lot of affiliates will tell you that because we want to hear it I don’t I feel but I personally feel better having more control yeah and what you can do to have more control is sent to them an opt-in first the simplest way it would just be to take the exact headline of the sales letter and put an opt-in yeah like this you know so this is actually one that Ted’s Woodworking a lot of offers you as an affiliate but like we should read who knows what happens after the personnel yeah are you still dealing that I don’t know but you could model this page you could recreate this in either any of those three services that I mentioned it the series so the simplest way to do it would be to take their sales page okay create a landing page that looks and feels exactly like it well close as you can yo they might click funnels or optimized or something like that so let’s look at their sales page yeah let’s look at Ted’s Woodworking sales page this is a video sales letter get access to 16,000 would plans yeah obviously that sounds really cool it what workers want that yeah so I would take that headline or if they give you email swipes there might be other versions but probably if nothing else I would just take that headline announcing the world’s best 1600 you know whatever so on there they’re things yeah but they give you a lot of resources here which is cool let’s just imagine that give you no resources okay endless way to do it okay take the exact headline yeah announcing the world’s largest collection of 16,000 wood plants yeah copy that headline okay put it on your own landing page try to get the text and everything to look just like that okay and instead of the video that they have there you just put an opt-in box that says enter your email here to watch the free video okay and then make that the opt-in not only will it capture their email but it should send it should be coded to your affiliate you know your affiliate so that the next page they land on is this but you capture their email first right so it’s I think they call it a bridge page yeah it’s also a way to if you’re sending like I’ve sent a lot of traffic to adult kind of offers or not a totally adult but dating in like r-rated dating which is close to adults and a lot of mainstream traffic sources don’t like that a lot of email service providers also don’t like that so what a lot of top affiliates do in that niche is create their own bridge page to send to that’s very clean that’s coded to you know their website instead of the affiliate so it looks a lot more white hat and McLean and not against the rules and then they capture the email and then send them through to the actual letter they wanted to send and then follow up with like a five-day sequence of the best affiliate swipes pitching that offer so you Center out of that page and capture their email in the most congruent way you didn’t make up a whole new page you’re just using the same angle that you know is working from the VSL or the six long-form sales letter that’s a proven angle it’s definitely working to that traffic so you’re putting your own landing page in front of it that looks and feels exactly the same capturing their email and then now they’ll either buy right away or it’s the one that I have set up about fifty percent of the buyers buy right away after they click through but the other fifty percent of people that do buy will die in the next five to seven days when I email them and you can make an autoresponder that does that automatically so instead of sending one time and making one chance to make a sale you’ve got you know one chance plus five more six chances to make a sale for the same amount of money you just spent on a click so this this page looks exactly like that right like if you were sending to a beauty product or whatever it would be like you know as this is saying apply this yeah every day and wrinkles are gone and let’s say the affiliate offer says how to get rid of wrinkles you you could take a picture of the affiliate offer put it here yes and then says what’s your name what’s your best email address I wouldn’t even take their name by the way they probably are taking names cuz they want to personalize the email mm-hmm I just don’t I it always converts better to only do email yeah I’ve been on the same less piece of information they have to type so the faster you can do it the better yeah I’m sure or they have a reason for taking I wouldn’t if I was making my own landing page I wouldn’t want their name okay so the question I wanted to ask you on this is after they give you the email using the headline that is an angle that’s already proven because you took it from the sales page or from the VSL or whatever what do you put on the next page so you’ve said 50% of people buy on the next page what would you put on the next page so whoa the next page would be the affiliate offers oh it goes directly to direct the offer yeah there’s no thank you page the the fastest way to do it is take their opt-in push straight to the affiliate offer okay if you don’t know how to code that sometimes it’s harder to code a button that pops them in and goes to the affiliate offer you can do a very simple Thank You page I think I’ve done this before to the Thank You page should just say a really good way to do it actually is on the landing page it says step one oh okay because people just remember people want to know they’re on the right track they’re getting through out they’ve planned on getting and if they ever feel like they’re not or they’re being led down the wrong road they bail so a really effective way to just remind people hey you’re almost there but I’m still capturing your email is the landing page captures their email you make another page in the middle really simple that just says thank you the very top of the page says step 2 of 3 big mm-hmm they know there’s just one okay which people just like to know how long is this gonna take yeah are you you know am I being [ __ ] or am I gonna be led to the right place I want and it’s good to just remind them so the next page after they opt-in might say step two out of three thank you on the next page click to discover blah blah blah blah blah and then the button that you have there is your affiliate link yeah to make sure that you’re getting cookie for the sale that they’re gonna hit right and just that’s all you need on the page there’s nothing to read there’s nothing they got to do it’s just a way for you to capture their email while keeping them happy til they get to the offer I might also on one of them that I did I also took because remember they’re gonna I also want them to go to their email and read the emails that I follow up with them yeah and because I’m an affiliate and I’m not associated with the offer they might be a good personality to that offer and like I’m not that person I definitely want them to open the emails that I send at least for the next five days so on the second page where it says page two out of three I might also have a screenshot of the first email and the autoresponder as it would appear inside of gmail inbox and just have an obvious picture of it to say like look for my email for a special bonus or something a picture just works really well because when they it just triggers in their mind like oh yeah look for that okay and the email is gonna have something for them to open like hey open for a free gift or a special bonus or hey in case you missed it here’s that video I promised you you know anything to get them to go back to the same offer but it’s a good place to right after you take their email show them a picture of whatever email address you’re sending from and say look look out for this email you know I just emailed you something cool and the reason for that is just because they don’t know who you are you’re at affiliate you don’t want them to see your email and their inbox later and assume it’s spam you want them to just somehow open it and remember that they they signed up for this yeah and there’s a benefit to opening this email because they don’t know who you are and I learned this the hard way was get response where I was doing that and making good money but then get response shut me down and I realized a lot of people were seeing my email thinking it was spam and marking it as spam and get response that triggered them to say like hey what are you doing you can’t do this we’re booting you off and I fixed that problem by just reminding people like hey it’s me you signed up for that thing remember here’s your here’s a here it is again just so they don’t mark it as spam and they remember that they signed up it’s just like a good way to cover your ass I guess yeah that’s awesome Wow we got a we got a lot of strategy there basically how to build any type of landing page after the click you got opt-in pages this is for affiliate marketing obviously so yeah the kind of shortcut way of figuring out what to write in your copy if you’re doing affiliate marketing is just literally take what they’re talking about on the sales page for the offer because they’re doing it because it’s working mm-hmm so yeah absolutely any of these any of these offers whatever they’re saying on the on the sales page is what’s working so it kind of makes copywriting a lot easier basically if you’re doing affiliate marketing and but the same stuff applies to if you’re not doing affiliate marketing if you want to build a list or you want to build your own products the same thing that Connor was saying about the experience that happens after the click and even before the click you know the key word to add to landing page experience has to be smooth it has to be it has to all make sense and it all has to be relevant this actually helps with your ads like I said it actually increases your quality score um in my experience it’s more important on google adwords than that it is on Bing but being high also has a Quality Score so I have to assume they’re using the same kind of rules and those rules are they want highly relevant ad groups two highly relevant ads with highly relevant ad copy that has keywords that the person was searching for in it and then when they click on that ad it should land on a landing page that basically gives them exactly what they clicked on as well whether that’s an opt-in a preset landing page or a sales page any sort of lead capture thing so the the principles there are true no matter what you’re selling if you’re selling dog walking then you should target dog walking keywords have an ad that says need somebody to walk your dog click here and then when they land on the page it just say you know Connor Boylan the world’s best dog walker wants to walk your dog yeah so that congruence that in the process is just very important so what do you guys think have any questions about this methodology so far it kind of makes things a lot simpler I think I’m I used to think that you’d have to create all of this on your own but that’s actually kind of the dumb way that I used to do it it’s all right there for you I mean these people have sold millions and millions and millions of dollars worth of woodworking information like they’ve figured out what’s worked what works to sell this so don’t reinvent the wheel basically if you’re doing a filling that’s always where you start right and so I know a lot of like super affiliates get really into copywriting because if you can create these pages you can get a competitive advantage correct once you have offers that you know are working right a lot of affiliates will or they’ll if you’re making money you can hire a copywriter right to make you a series of pages that you might want to test in a campaign that’s more advanced yeah but when you’re just starting out you never want to spend a whole lot of time like writing a lot of coffee getting real creative just model what’s working already and it seems like you know you’re the expert on ads here but it seems like the their job is just to connect the keyword to the offer in the most congruent way right yes and I always say it doesn’t I mean I always want to do what works best like if I test direct linking versus a landing pre-salt landing page versus an opt-in and people just aren’t opting in or whatever like the opt-in I wrote isn’t that good and the direct link isn’t working that great but the pre-sell landing page triples conversion like that’s what I want to do I don’t care about the specific strategy I want to do whatever works best and by the way guys I want to share that I just set up these campaigns like less maybe than an hour ago and it looks like they’re already getting some traffic so let’s check in on them real quick I believe it’s the general woodworking one I just checked my clickmagick stats and you can so you can see sometimes this is faster and in right here it says unique clicks those are true clicks so you can see once again we have traffic flowing I mean it takes you know 10 minutes to set this up and we’ve got real people clicking who are interested in what we’re and what we’re offering now I kind of did this intentionally just to show a more generic one I’m really just targeting very generic keywords of like literally just woodworking so those are that’s the fastest way to get traffic is to target really broad stuff I’m not saying it’s gonna be instantly profitable it’s probably gonna take some work to optimize but it is the fastest way to start getting traffic is just target those broad match keywords so when you target woodworking I mean there’s thousands and thousands of people searching for that every day so look how fast we’ve gotten traffic and you can see what they’re searching for to target this it’s actually faster in clickmagick than it is even in Bing so right now if we go to analyze what search terms have gotten us clicks Bing doesn’t report it yet but clickmagick already knows because they tracked it right away so free downloadable large yard light house patterns it’s a broad match it’s on a mobile device with the M it’s on the syndicated network so it’s coming from some part of things we can also see here that it’s on a mobile device it’s on iOS it’s on Safari it’s in the US we can see their their things but you say wooden plans toy workbench plans how to build wood Smith’s shop plans free so they’re not very they’re not very specific – so basically you I’m using this landing page not that one this one so I’m sending it into this we’ll see how it works it’s gonna this is not under my control at all I can’t control it now if I wanted to control it I could create my own version that’s very similar to this but currently I’m just sending directly to this so we’ll see how it goes also another place I like to look once I start getting traffic is in Clickbank analytics or whatever you know service you’re using if you click in the reporting and then analytics and then in the today a range I can see which offers have been sending traffic to so it looks like I’ve gotten nine hops to Ted’s plans that’s the woodworking one and one order form impression count I think I was probably me testing it earlier but it just shows me that everything everything’s working is as normal we’ve gotten six clicks today to the strike pen zero to the order form impression so that means zero people made it to like the checkout page basically and then one I can’t remember what offer that is so anyways I just saw some including through in this thing that I set up on an hour ago so I just wanted to share that with you how fast it can happen if you target broader keywords we’ve been trying to go pretty specific or you know narrow keywords but if you go broader you can start getting some traffic real quick you can start seeing you know which ones are probably going to lead to conversions so we have several ways to make your copy convert much better make your landing pages convert much better and it’s probably not as hard as you thought it was because really the answer is almost always model what’s already working just in in marketing in general you can always that keep that in mind model was already working so that’s the whole ad hacking thing that’s Russell Brunson’s funnel hacking it’s just looking at what’s working and then like you have a really great formula for this I learned from you and you learned from another amazing copywriter that basically you want to use 80% what was the ratio 80% the same even more like anymore um I to work with this guy’s a world-class copywriter he’s wrote a few like million dollar video sales letters and he taught me his process which was and you guys don’t have to go this deep but just to explain like how a lot of top guys do it he would take if he wanted to go into a new niche he would take the top five offers that are working right now have them transcribed because their videos so you can’t really read the copy you got to have it like written down you get the script of it transcribed good like go through them and figure out like what’s what are the main hooks the angles what makes this work like what are they all have in common just get a feel for like what is working right now what’s the big idea what’s the the most the way that they’re getting you to watch the video is it a story is it some sort of like medical breakthrough like that one that we saw that’s a common angle that comes up again and again it’s like scientific breakthroughs because it’s really compelling like new information nobody knew this before scientists just discovered this new thing you’ll see that angle used a lot and basically he would just figure out what’s the angle that’s making this work what are the big ideas the headlines some of the bullet points and then when he went to write his own he would stick to everything that was working and only tweak it by about 10 percent because he obviously you can’t just copy someone else write one that’s stealing and to won’t really work like if somebody is the first to create a successful offer everyone that copies them after isn’t not gonna have the same success you know the first person have a breakthrough idea that really works everyone will copycat them but nobody will ever match their success it’s Pandora’s Box nobody ever did as well as them because they were the first to breakthrough with that idea so what this guy would do is figure out all the key ID components that made it work and then put his own spin on it by like ten oh but only by 10 to 15% he would like religiously not deviate too far away from what’s definitely working but he would twist it by 10 to 15% to give it a chance to be a breakthrough and it’s still looking for ESL’s to get the breakthrough but yeah does that make sense yeah totally and although what’s working like figure out the components of it that make it work a lot of people just copy the copywriting but there’s something going on under the surface that makes it work right and usually it’s the angle that they use to get you watching in the beginning you’ll see it in the headline and the first couple of sentences for the first like five minutes of the video and then throughout the whole letter or the whole offer they’ll be like one big idea that keep referring back to for a reason you know one big idea so that’s really key to look for the big idea if you can find the big idea for this absolutely making it work right yeah so I think there are two really amazing lessons there one just in general a marketing always just kind of stick close to that ratio of 90 10 yeah like say 90 10 like tweak it by 10% yeah but no more than that you’re sticking pretty close to what’s working stick pretty close to what’s working with landing pages with ads with keywords with we’ve showed you in the last class how to reverse engineer the keywords that are working for a particular website or affiliate offer like this one I put in the power efficiency guide calm which is a new trending Clickbank offer and I reverse engineered it with Google Adwords Keyword tool you can also use Bing to do this but it spit out all things that are relevant specifically to the product then we went into Bing and type that in power efficiency guide we saw that review is a good way to do it this is just the official website so probably don’t model that and you know honestly not a lot of people are bidding on this so might be a good time for you guys to try this out price is good for these ads but again remodeling was working don’t deviate too much from these successful ads don’t deviate too much from successful landing pages from successful opt-in headlines you can be creative later like even that guy he’s extremely successful has made millions and millions of dollars and he still doesn’t deviate much from you know and he comes up with completely new unique ideas within his niche but even those new ideas are only deviating 10% yeah so just keep that core principle in mind when you’re doing copywriting in general and I honestly think that’s the biggest waste of time that I ever did was trying to come up with my own ideas yeah I mean that’s the highest level thing you can do right takes the most effort and it’s the riskiest right you know the breakthrough ideas that make billions of dollars somebody who was very good marketer and very experienced at a niche came up with a brand new idea but we’re not telling you to do that right you know we’re telling you to find those guys and tweet what they’re doing by just a little bit and you can have tremendous success doing that you can be creative when you’re extremely rich yeah for now stick to what’s working and that will just make every single one of these kind of obstacles easy I mean everything got easier for me that’s how I’ve built this entire business of the Bing and everything I just like looked at what was working for other marketers that’s how I built YouTube videos that went mini viral that one principle really just kind of affects every single thing you do as a marketer that just start with what works tweak it a tiny little bit don’t deviate much from it it just really makes everything a lot easier and if you’re doing affiliate marketing they’re basically giving you the tools here they tell you the things that are selling this offer that’s what the audience they’re speaking to cares about your job learning traffic learning thing is how to find those people you know and bring them to what they already want you don’t have to create what they want you just have to channel them that’s our job as traffic people is just find the people that want it bring them to what they already want that someone else has already figured out what they want they’re doing research and spending money and all that stuff and bring them to the offers that they already want you know they already want them because people are buying them like crazy you know the headlines that they already want because they’re already clicking on them you know the products they already want like I feel like you know we’ve been through a few classes now it’s starting to it’s starting to all come together you know we did a lot of research in the last couple we did a lot of you know building up the ad groups building up the keywords and this is kind of just becoming a system I mean just today like I just you know we’ve got one technically profitable campaign we’ll talk about scaling on the next class but I mean as of right now this is a profitable campaign you know spent a couple bucks made six bucks pretty good pretty good way to start we’ve got full control because we set up our tracking correctly and we split our ad groups into syndicated and Bing they’re not all mixed together and and confusing later so we actually know what’s working we know what keyword is working we know what device is working so far if we had to go on no other data we could just turn off mobile and tablet but again we’ll talk about that in the next class on on scaling techniques and optimization techniques like what to do after this but you know I set this up less than an hour ago and now I wanted to get something because the last things that we’ve tried you know it’s been harder to get impressions and clicks and stuff now I just want I just want to show the process like that’s totally fine that’s part of the process to the tactical pen one when we first started it it didn’t really get any traffic and it still hasn’t gotten much but it’s building you know you got a look kind of I think of letting it breathe I think of it a like like as building a fire like you got to let it get a little spark and then and grow and grow and grow and this one however I basically just opened up the floodgates or whatever I guess now it went from water to fire water but I basically said hey Bing you don’t have to be that specific this is kind of the opposite strategy so a lot of times we talk about starting with a controlled ad group and kind of working your way out in the members area I talked about the reverse funnel method that’s how to start off very conservative this is like the opposite of that this isn’t conservative at all this is casting a wide net and we’re gonna monitor it and we’re gonna look for any conversions and then we’re gonna narrow down but it’s important to know you can get traffic really fast you can get lots of traffic really fast you can get really good traffic really fast you can get it really cheap and it’s up to you to learn the techniques to do control that traffic and that’s what you’re learning in this course so I think that’s a ton of stuff to to just know about what to do with with copywriting in general if you follow that method you’re gonna be pretty solid and do you guys you guys have any questions for me or for Connor anything about your current campaigns going or anything you’ve experienced in the past any sort of like difference in experience than what we’ve shared here or questions anything so I think we’ve got a pretty good system that works in any niche for any business do go out do some ad hacking do some funnel hacking figure out what’s already working write down you know get this worksheet write down what are the top keywords do some reverse engineer keyword research look at what the competition is doing how many other adds up are out there what are the different companies what ad copy are they using what headlines are they’re using if you write the top five headlines you pretty much have written your ad if you take those tough top five headlines and change them 10% boom you got your ads easy peasy ad angles Connor Minch the neck term angles could you explain what angle means a little bit better yeah sure so the whole goal of the offer that you’re sending them to is to trigger some emotion you know people buy because of emotions and well I guess the whole point of a sales letter is to take them through a process and that process always has to begin with catching their attention and holding it for you know that VSL you showed them is probably around 30 to 45 minutes a lot of those sales letters have a lot of coffee it’s somebody to take a while to read and it tastes a little bit of time and copywriting in salesmanship effort to get them in that emotional state so it’s the most important thing that all those sales letters do in the beginning is to grab your attention and hold it if they know that if they can grab someone’s attention for longer than a minute ish that they’re very likely to stick around and hear the pitch you know so a lot of effort goes into different ways to hold their attention right at the start and that’s called a hook or an angle is how a hook or if an angle is what are they saying in the very beginning but the first five minutes of that video what are they doing to hold a person’s attention so that angle of that one video that played look like they were telling a story about something crazy did have a new person I didn’t pick up on exactly what it was but there’s something in that story that was really compelling and that’s the angle they’re using a lot of big time offers to are split testing different angles to see what’s most compelling a lot of general sales letters like the classic opening is like hey if if you’re a woodworker who likes to do bla bla bla bla bla then this will be the best video you’ve ever seen yeah that’s a straightforward angle that just calls out who they are and why they should watch this but there’s also a lot of different ways to do it you know like some of them will go straight at the benefit of you know hey this supplement improves your back pain or your joint pain right is that the one that we saw yeah like hid the B so talking about doctor the video angle scientific breakthrough yeah that’s really interesting yeah so they’re trying– intrigue to say like Oh what is this interesting new thing I don’t know about that might benefit me you know because it’s obviously related to their back pain stories usually work the best but they’re the hardest to do right okay you know like it’s really hard to get a good compelling story but that usually holds attention the best and so people you know you know good copywriters are always testing a story angle because most people will stop reading a sales letter but nobody can stop reading a good story no no one will stop watching a good story on Netflix they have to find out what happens yeah also stories are disarming they don’t sound like a sales pitch mm-hmm so by the time they’re involved five minutes into your story you can start pitching them things and their defenses are down because they’re so interested now the story is in the angle though it’s what’s going on in the story a lot of good angles will just really exaggerate the desire of the market so well the joint pain one is all about pain right right so they’re gonna the angle that they would take there is to emphasize how bad life is when you got joint pain and all the things you can’t do like making a sale is essentially just taking someone from where they are now with it before to a state after you know the product is a way to get them from to point B and point a they’re feeling a lot of pain and so a good angle would be to talk about all the pain they’re feeling or like how my other life sucks when they don’t they can’t walk normally because their knees crack and they hurt you know and they would kind of an angle is just talking about how bad that sucks and really relating to it with empathy to show them what all these people get me they know what I’m going through so an angle isn’t by this joint pain supplement cuz buy it right now know the angle is well boy doesn’t it suck to have joint pain yes an angle could be by this right now they could be taking a scarcity angle to say like huh this is a flash sale it’s only going to be on for the next ten minutes that could be an angle okay scarcity right but usually for a big time offer that you’re most you guys will be mailing to they won’t start like that because this is called traffic yeah so you they first have to understand what this is and why they should care about it so does that make sense my explaining that right yeah totally they’re just different leads that you can take into the the sales pitch and then you know there’s a lot of ways to do it but they usually involve some kind of emotion or intriguing something to make them curious enough to stop with whatever they’re doing and actually give their time and attention to the next twenty minutes of this video yeah whatever they have to do to get that attention that’s the angle that they started with and a lot of offers have different angles that they test it’s all awesome alright so Charles says will using clickmagick keep the affiliate network from getting your keywords I’m not actually sure what you mean by that is there like a fear of affiliate networks getting keywords is that something like they’re gonna share it with other affiliates or something I’ve mostly done Clickbank stuff so I don’t Clickbank okay well let’s let’s think about this actually know the way the way that it works is clickmagick generates a unique click ID and that click ID is all that the affiliate network ever sees I believe I’m not super techie about this stuff but I’m pretty sure the only thing that Clickbank ever sees for example is this seven six three nine nine two two five six and then click magic knows because click magic sent that click off with this click ID and it then converted and Clickbank oh boy this is getting complicated but Clickbank sends the data to click magic and says hey that that tracking ID seven one six something something something converted and click magic can match that up with their previous data that’s really confusing but Charles says I heard they will give your campaign away you know I don’t know I’m not that experienced with like CPA networks that might be something that happens I wouldn’t worry about it for now I mean unless that’s a problem you’re having and then you’d have to find somebody who knows how to deal with that and then figure out you know how to deal with it I’d just be you know working on getting some conversions Kalyan so guys I think we covered a lot and I think I think we can wrap this one up if you have any more questions feel free to ask and thanks for hanging out and thank you very much Connor for sharing your experience yeah that was valuable thanks for having me yeah any final questions anyone happy Halloween as well yeah I don’t know when you’ll be watching this if you buy this program later but it’s Halloween right now so how do you put this on oh there we go they can still see the camera we just can’t see it think happy all the way ahead we got one more night with these random costumes and we gotta take it back yeah Carlo says thanks a lot ha ha ha ha yeah Thank You Carlos you’ve been on every single call and so you Charles thank you so much both of you you guys are awesome feel free to jump in the facebook group and you know you don’t by the way I understand like Charles you’re asking about giving campaigns away we all understand like you don’t have to share the exact offers you’re doing or your ads or your landing pages or whatever if something’s working like don’t tell anybody about it I was part of a lot of Shopify groups for a while when I was getting really into that and a lot of newbies would they would ask a question and then people would ask them what’s your store and then the newbies would share their store and everybody else would be like oh don’t share your store everybody if you tell everybody in the group that you have a really successful campaign in Shopify the first thing that everybody’s gonna do is just rip it off and do it like that’s part of the game with affiliate marketing unless you have some super competitive advantage then the if somebody knows something is working then they can just kind of take it so you don’t ever have to share anything that you don’t want to share but you can talk in general terms you can talk about click-through rates opt-in rates etc and if you come into the Facebook group you can ask those questions and we can help each other I can help you that would be pretty great but yeah if there no more questions um gonna call it call it a night and we’ll have our next and final class about optimizing and scaling so feel free also if you don’t want to get in the Facebook group I also understand that I really don’t like Facebook that much so you can send me an email I’d love to know what are your about huh things to work off of from the launch the winner what do I do you next off that we’ve been talking about and you’ll do well how do we end this
