Godaddy Name Servers

Domain names are unique identifiers on the Internet, like telephone numbers. Just as people need a phone number to call you, computers need a domain name to find your website

When you buy a domain name, you’re also buying the right to be the exclusive owner of that name for a certain period of time, usually one year. At its simplest, a domain name is just an address where people can find your website

For example, GoDaddy.com is a domain name, and people can find GoDaddy’s website by typing that domain name into their browser. Technically, a domain name is a series of numbers that are assigned to a server that stores a website’s files

When you type a domain name into your browser, a Domain Name System (DNS) server translates that domain name into the numerical IP address that corresponds to the server storing the website’s files. Once you have registered a domain name, you need to point it to a web hosting service to make your website accessible to the world

Web hosting services provide space on their servers for your website’s files, and they give you a unique domain name that points to that website. Most web hosting services will give you the option to register a domain name when you sign up for their service

If you use a web hosting service that doesn’t include a free domain name, you can still buy a domain name and point it to your web hosting service. To do this, you’ll need to change the DNS settings for your domain name to point to the web hosting service’s servers. Godaddy is a domain name registrar and web hosting company

You can use Godaddy to buy a domain name, and then use Godaddy’s web hosting service to host your website. Alternately, you can use Godaddy to buy a domain name and then point that domain name to another web hosting service

To do this, you’ll need to change the DNS settings for your domain name to point to the other web hosting service’s servers. The process of changing your domain’s DNS settings to point to a new web hosting service is sometimes called changing your domain’s name servers

Each domain name has at least two name servers associated with it. Name servers are sometimes also referred to as DNS servers or domain name system servers. When you register a domain name, the registrar will ask you for the name servers that you want to use for your domain

You can usually use the registrar’s default name servers, but you can also use any other name servers that you want. For example, you might want to use name servers provided by your web hosting service, or you might want to use a third-party DNS service. If you want to use a web hosting service other than the one that you used to register your domain name, you’ll need to change your domain’s name servers to point to the new web hosting service

To do this, you’ll need to log in to your registrar’s account and change the name server settings for your domain. Each registrar has a different process for changing name servers, so you’ll need to consult your registrar’s documentation for instructions. Once you’ve changed your domain’s name servers, it will take some time for the changes to propagate

This process, called DNS propagation, can take up to 48 hours. During this time, your domain will still work with the old web hosting service. After DNS propagation is complete, your domain will start working with the new web hosting service.
