WordPress allows you to easily embed videos from popular video sites like YouTube, Vimeo, and Dailymotion. However, when you embed a video in your post, the thumbnail for that video is not always featured.
In order to add a featured video thumbnail in WordPress, you need to first install and activate the Video Thumbnails plugin. For more details, see our step by step guide on how to install a WordPress plugin.
Once the plugin is activated, go to your WordPress dashboard and click on Posts » Add New to create a new post. On the post editor screen, click on the ‘Add Video’ icon above the post editor.
This will bring up the Insert Video dialog box where you need to paste the URL of the video you want to embed.
After adding the video URL, click on the Insert into post button. WordPress will now embed the video in your post.
Next, you need to click on the ‘Add Media’ button above the post editor. On the Insert Media popup, click on the Video Thumbnails tab.
You will see a list of all the videos you have embedded in this post. From here, you need to select the video thumbnail that you want to use as the featured image and then click on the Set as featured image button.
You can now publish your post and check how the featured video thumbnail appears on your website.
