If you’re running a WordPress site, there may come a time when you need to change the URL (or permalink) of one or more of your posts or pages. Fortunately, WordPress makes it easy to do this.
In most cases, you’ll want to change the URL of a post or page because you’ve changed the title, and you want the URL to match. For example, you may have originally titled a post “How to Make a Delicious Strawberry Pie,” but later changed the title to “Strawberry Pie Recipe.” In this case, you would want to change the URL from “how-to-make-a-delicious-strawberry-pie” to “strawberry-pie-recipe.”
If you simply want to change the URL for the sake of changing it, that’s also fine. For example, you may have a post with the URL “best-cats” that you want to change to “worst-cats.”
Whatever your reason for changing a URL, the process is the same. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Log into your WordPress site and go to the post or page you want to change.
Step 2: In the upper right-hand corner, you’ll see a button labeled “Edit.” Click on this.
Step 3: On the Edit screen, scroll down to the “Permalink” section.
Step 4: Click on the “Edit” button next to the current URL.
Step 5: Enter the new URL you want to use in the “Slug” field.
Step 6:Scroll down and click on the “Update” button to save your changes.
And that’s it! You’ve successfully changed the URL of your post or page.
