Installing Google Tag Manager in WordPress is a simple process that can be done in just a few minutes. Once installed, you’ll be able to manage all your website tags from one central location.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to install and setup Google Tag Manager in WordPress:
Step 1: Create a Google Tag Manager Account
First, you’ll need to create a Google Tag Manager account. Head over to the Google Tag Manager website and click on the “Create an account” button.
Enter your account name, country, and time zone. Then, click on the “Continue” button.
Step 2: Configure Your Account
On the next screen, you’ll need to configure your account. Select the “Web” option and then click on the “Continue” button.
Step 3: Create a Container
Next, you’ll need to create a container. A container is a spaces where you can add, manage, and deploy your website tags.
Give your container a name and then select the “Web” option. Finally, click on the “Create” button.
Step 4: Install the Google Tag Manager Code
Once you’ve created your container, you’ll be given a code snippet. This code snippet contains your Google Tag Manager ID.
You’ll need to install this code snippet on every page of your website. The easiest way to do this is by installing the Google Tag Manager for WordPress plugin.
Once the plugin is installed and activated, head over to the Settings » GTM page and enter your Google Tag Manager ID.
Make sure to select the “Manage all tags” option and then click on the “Save Changes” button.

Step 5: Add Tags
Once Google Tag Manager is installed on your website, you can start adding tags. Tags are snippets of code that are used for things like tracking and analytics.
There are two ways to add tags in Google Tag Manager. You can either use the built-in tag templates or you can create your own custom tags.
If you’re just starting out, then we recommend using the built-in tag templates. These templates are pre-configured for popular tags like Google Analytics.
To use a built-in tag template, head over to the “Tags” section and click on the “New Tag” button. On the next screen, select the “Tag Configuration” option.
Then, select the “Google Analytics” tag type from the list of options.
After that, you’ll need to enter your Google Analytics Tracking ID. You can find this ID in your Google Analytics account.
Once you’ve entered your Tracking ID, click on the “Triggering” option. This will allow you to choose when the tag should fire.
For most tags, you can leave the default “All Pages” trigger type selected. This will ensure that the tag fires on all pages of your website.
Finally, click on the “Save” button to save
