Case Study #1: First Sale
what’s up everyone it’s the nomads Brad and today I want to walk you through a first sale case study using Clickbank direct linking and Bing ads I just got this question so much and you know I just wanted to answer it for everybody so thank you for investing in this this case study and I hope you find that it’s exciting and helpful to see exactly what I did to make a first sale that’s profitable with just a few days and a few dollars of ads Ben I think you’re gonna love this so here’s the sale is a brand new account actually it’s an old account but I haven’t I only use it for demonstration purposes so I used it last fall when I created the Bing ads bootcamp 2.0 and I haven’t done anything with it since so you can see here we got our first sale today and I’m not extremely low budget so I’m gonna walk you through all the steps now there’s another video in here of how to you know set everything up but I will walk you through the specific steps of this campaign that’s a that uses a different product but the exact same steps are applicable so I did make you know one mistake which is so an epic fail because I wanted this to be a first sale case study and I kind of missed I missed it so I’ll explain it to you though and you can easily correct for my mistake and I’ll add some updated stuff later but so here it is 2479 from the first sale we can click into my reporting here you can see I started running ads a few days ago this is a 5:30 and it’s 6 7 so I wanted to be like super conservative use a super conservative strategy which I talked about a lot and just show you exactly so run a few different products here but this is the one that got the first sale you can see it’s 2479 it’s for a product called shed plant so I’ll show you in a second this is the account so you can see this is the entire time lifetime of the account hasn’t really spent anything in until now until q2 of 2019 and it’s it’s only gotten 42 clicks and you can see I’ve got some different campaigns in here running some other some other tests in this again this is the public you know account to show to when I’m teaching so we’ve got this is the so I’ve got a bunch of different campaigns here so this is the campaign SP shed plans in the US again in the other video I show you exactly like how to set up all this stuff this step-by-step but we’ll just explore a little bit and explain the seven step method that I use so the first step is to choose an offer now for this case study we’re going to use Clickbank Clickbank is usually it’s my favorite place to find products to promote and a lot of people go there first anyways so it works out perfectly so here I just was looking at you know I sort by gravity and I was just looking at these different products and let me you know kind of reveal how is thinking number one I tell people just avoid the weight loss niche when you’re starting out because it’s too competitive there are ways to do it but just don’t worry about it in the beginning now keto that’s wide open in wide open I mean there’s lots of search volume and it’s not like hyper competitive diabetes probably the same thing this manifestation niche is kind of weird but you can definitely get in there Ted’s Woodworking battery I’m looking for something that gets a lot of search volume and is probably very specific so if you’re gonna be you know spending if you’re gonna be working with a small budget which is what this first sale case study is about then you need to focus on buyer in town I talked about this more in the Bing ads bootcamp but you want to start by knowing exactly what those people are looking for so in this case we’re gonna look up the the product shed plans so we can see the gravity score is really good it’s the gravity score basically just tells you how many promote how many affiliates out there are promoting this successfully right now how many people how many different affiliates have made a sale for this in the last however many days and I just thought this is a really good fit because there’s probably a lot of people searching for I know there’s a lot of people searching for woodworking plans because that other woodworking product does really well and this one is a little better for a smaller budget because it’s specific to one desire so it’s not like woodworking which is a big niche it’s only for people who are searching for shed plans so if you give people I always talk about congruence from the keyword to the ad to the landing page to the product you want that experience to be as congruent as possible and especially if you’re working on a small budget you need to know exactly who’s coming to the page you need to give them exactly what they’re looking for and the product needs to give them exactly what they’re looking for because you can’t be playing around with big budgets and just you know seeing what sticks you need to know kind of ahead of time exactly who’s coming here so if you’re only targeting people who are looking for shed plans and the product is only about shed plans it kind of makes sense so I tried that again if you want to see how to set up all the technical stuff it’s in the it’s in the other video included here so the next step so we to choose an offer the next step is to set up tracking so again technical details covered in the other video but the most important part is we want clickmagick to be set up with Clickbank and I kind of goofed on this actually but it’s still going to work out and I’ll show you why so we set up our link and click magic again check the other video see exact instructions on how to do that but we set up our link for this product we put it in click magic and we put it put that into being now the next step again covered in the other video is to start with the 1 5 15 ad group structure this is just a rough this is not absolute you know I’m just giving you the the best kind of guidelines that I use when launching campaigns it’s not absolute but if you follow this you’re gonna be good 80 percent of the time so 1 5 15 for each of the ad groups so let’s look inside this ad group into the keywords so here’s the 1 which is 1 broad match here’s the 5 if we sort by match type we got and actually you know again I said this is rough so here’s the one here’s the 5 is phrase matches so it’s actually 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 but it’s the same ratio right so I have one broad I have 12 phrase and then I have a lot of exact so this is the 1 5 15 kind of ratio it’s like you only need one broad match to go do more exploring you need some phrase matches which are more precise and in as many exact match phrases is you can think of or that you find throughout your running your campaign to add to the campaign are gonna be good because they’re the most control again if you’re working on a small budget and you want to be precise and you want to control the traffic if you don’t know what I mean by that then I recommend you upgrade and join the big ant bootcamp 2.0 because we cover that in the course so that’s the key that’s the ad group I started with 1 5 15 and then I’ve added a few of these over the last few days so we can see let’s just look at this month it started on May 30th and it’s it’s June 7th right now so started on May 30th so there was a couple days but you can see you know this well let’s do the full campaign here so the full campaign is getting about six eight seven whatever clicks per day you can look spend you can see we spent seventy six dollars one day a dollar thirty seven a dollar eight so definitely not breaking the but the break in the bank here but what we are doing is being really precise and really controlled from the keyword to the ad to the landing page to the product that whole process is very congruent and very precise again if you don’t know what I mean by that then I recommend you jump into the Bing ads bootcamp 2.0 and you can learn all about that so next step $10 a day budget very simple again trying to show what’s possible even starting out with a small budget this has only been $10 a day the exact settings I use are in the other video you can check that out manual bid US only English and then a specific technique that I have used very successfully in many different niches and budgets is separating Bing and syndicate I’ll show you how to do that in the other video you can watch that so $10 a day budget we duplicated the ad groups like I said we created one in Bing duplicate it over to the syndicate it syndicated network again watch the other video to learn more about that we wrote our ads let’s check that out here the ads you’re gonna see it takes a lot of copywriting this is years and years of study and practice I’m just kidding it’s not impressive you don’t need to write incredible ads you can pretty much be a dummy and write really good ads if you’re following the congruent from keyword to ad to landing page to offer in this case its direct linking so they’re both together the landing page and the offer but if you’re congruent through that whole process you will do real well with search advertising now where did I get this headline guess what I opened up the product sales page and I looked at the headline on the sales page you know what’s funny I actually didn’t even do this correctly I’ve written some I’ve opened so many ads for Ted’s Woodworking that has 12,000 oh yeah get instant access to 12,000 plans and bonuses all right so 12,000 shet plans all right so they also maybe split testing headlines I don’t know maybe I saw 12,000 so they have 12,000 you can build a shed and in a weekend even if you have zero woodworking experience see that’s a cool headline I think I would probably would have used that I think they were split testing headlines when I created this app but I used 12,000 shed plans let’s take a look at the ad we’re doing direct linking so this is goes to their page and then it gets redirected to right click magic that’s all covered in the other video watch that check this out order now I put order now just to kind of show that it’s something they’re gonna pay for this you know just test it you know but I want to I wanted to be as close to kind of filtering out people who weren’t interested in buying as as I could because we’re working on a small budget again want to be super conservative and super you know targeted on who were targeting with buyer intent now you can go crazy with this or you can just ignore it I probably could have taken out the order now and I still would have worked but this it’s just you know that’s why I did that step-by-step instructions I mean that’s not copywriting this is this I mean this is one of the great myths of this world is that you need to learn copywriting for this particular strategy you do not need to learn copywriting it’s basically just take whatever the copywriters wrote and put it here because they know what resonates with that particular person who’s searching step by step instructions easy-to-follow plans you put the keyword in there as much as possible shed plans plans shed plans yeah and then I took these headlines – you’ll never worry about cutting the wrong size spinning circles or waste time I took that directly from the sales page somewhere designed to be easy to follow by anyone nope blueprint reading experience I took that from the sales page this is the direct linking strategy it’s not very complicated and there it is so that’s the ad only one AD everybody’s like oh you got a split test split test split test I don’t think you need to split test in the beginning if you follow the congruence from keyword to ad to landing page to offer if you do that you don’t need to write copy you don’t need to split test ads because you already know what they’re searching for it’s exactly this so there you go you’re giving it to them so that’s that we wrote the ads now the last step is to wait for conversions we got our first conversion today so I want to show you this inside of clickmagick now again I goofed this up because I forgot one critical step because I just set up this account but we can still get the exact same information that we need now click magic the in the other video I show you exactly how to set this up technically except for one piece there’s gonna be another video on that piece that I’ll show so the piece that I missed that I’ll show in the other video is you need to integrate your click magic and click bank account so you need to get them talking to each other one time well you only have to do that once you just go to help and then you go to right down here if you just type in like Clickbank integration whatever they’re gonna direct you to this FAQ now in another video in here I’m gonna show you how to set this up so so I’ll show you me setting it up but also you can just read this you can ask them for help they’re very good this is how you you do this one time that’s it and I forgot to do that which is bummer because I really wanted to capture this per sale on this but whatever now we still have all the information we need to know exactly what decision to make it’s just a slightly less convenient because it’s not right on the screen but I’ll show you now the way that we set up our ads and everything with quick magic I show you exactly step by step in the other video it has these things called tokens at the end so this is our click magic tracking URL and it’s got the Bing tokens again I explained those in the other video go watch the other video these tokens have told us some cool stuff that’s going to help us optimize and keep making this campaign more and more profitable or make sure that we’re not going to waste money or whatever or we can use this to improve we can use it to learn we can use it to grow it’s gonna tell us the query string the match type the device the network the ad ID now let’s look and click magic and I’m gonna show you this is the exact click that generated the conversion I’ll show you how I knew that in a second but you can see here’s a query string how to build a small building that’s what they’d actually search no matter what keyword generated it that’s what they actually searched broad match so this came from a broad match keyword this is the match type and it came from a mobile device you can also see a picture over here mobile phone actually using Safari browser and it’s iOS so it’s you actually know it came from an iPhone can’t really do much with that and Bing at least not right now but it’s good to know this could be a huge difference between mobile and computer so and this is o for the original or for the owned-and-operated network talk about the more of that in the other video so this came from a Bing either Bing AOL MSN or Yahoo so we know that and we you can see the IP address this is how I know it came this actually no the reason that I know it came from this is if you go into your Clickbank reporting again watch the other video so you can set all this stuff technically but let’s assume that you’ve already done that and you go sort by tracking ID all of these tracking IDs are unique click ID is generated every single time somebody clicks on a link and it goes through clickmagick clickmagick creates a unique click ID that gets associated with the the the hop the click over to click magic or it’s clickbank and then if if you set it up correctly which I didn’t do but I still have all the information I need then when Clickbank makes a sale it will then go talk to click magic and say hey I got a sale it came from tracking ID eight five four four three two four nine four click magic goes cool that’s actually a click ID that I generated and it’s and I’ve got it still stored in my database so I’m gonna look up tracking ID eight five four blah blah blah blah and that’s what I just did so if you go to tools click ID lookup it shows you every click that’s come through you click your quick magic ID get subtract you say click show click ID history I know this is the one that converted because Clickbank knows that so now it tells me the IP address all this stuff so now I see how to build a small building broad match well mobile device owned and operated and then this thing is the ad ID it’s the other token we added you can see over here now this one sometimes gets cut off depending on the link but a to three to six one blah blah blah three nine two four seven let’s see if they got it all yeah so it’s all there eight two three two six one zero two ba ba ba so now you know the ad that can in this ad you know the device so now let’s look real quick at our ad groups so overall total this is the cool part we’ve spent five dollars and 61 cents now we’ve generated so far now this person could refund whatever blah blah but we’ve generated twenty four dollars and 79 cents net so we just turned five dollars into twenty four dollars and it only took it took about a week because we’re going super slow with really low budgets that’s okay super conservative five dollars 61 cents just getting a few clicks a day but the really targeted clicks and people are you know the people that search for these things are interested in the product now there’s a couple other things we can see it came from the owned-and-operated so it came from this ad group we know that because this one is only syndicated watch the other video to learn how to set that up this is the this is the owned and operated so it actually so we spent five dollars and 61 cents to make twenty four dollars but actually we only spent technically we’ve only spent what’s in this ad group to make that like so that one has spent three dollars and seventy so actually we’ve only spent three dollars and 70 cents to make twenty four seventy so we’ve made twenty one dollars profit so far and actually if we dig in a little further it was generated on a mobile device so on the smartphone now that has only had five clicks and it’s actually only spent sixty four cents so we spent sixty-four cents and made twenty four seventy nine pretty cool I think so so that was the last step wait for conversions and then of course there’s tons of ways to optimize this to grow it to keep you know make sure that the this is you know this doesn’t happen every single time there’s a process to it you got to follow the steps and then you invest in information you buy data that’s how paid traffic works it’s not always gonna be right away day one everybody gets frustrated and freaked out because they don’t have a hundred conversions on day one but look at this you know within a week we turned 70 cents into twenty four dollars twenty three dollars that’s like a ten bajillion percent ROI because I was patient and set things up the right way now that’s the case study you have everything you need to go do this set this all up watch the other video get clicked
