all right welcome back to the Bing ads boot camp this is the Nomad Brad coming to you from my glorious really fancy closet studio all right so today we’re gonna be talking about advanced tracking for affiliates because I already mentioned that you know if you’re not doing affiliate stuff then it’s pretty easy to set up tracking and Bing if you own the website and you can put code wherever you want it’s very easy but it gets a little trickier for affiliates so I’m gonna cover a few basic things here hmm alright so the super basics of any online business every a single online business is there’s two major pieces there’s traffic and conversion so usually traffic flows from a traffic source to a landing page and if a conversion happens then in this case obviously we’re sending traffic from Bing so Bing will send traffic to a landing page and then you know the landing page might be an opt-in page or a sales page and then if someone takes an action you put the code on that page and then you put the Bing code on the Thank You page so after they opt-in or after they purchase and then you tell Bing to register when they’re on that page as a conversion and then it goes back to being so if conversion happens Bing registers a conversion so this is this is kind of how that looks and this is true of every traffic source not just Bing but we’re using Bing obviously obviously in the Bing ads bootcamp so the traffic goes here to the web site there’s code on the website that is linked up to this to your Bing account and then if somebody you know makes a conversion if they they opt-in or they purchase then the there’s conversion code on that page of your website as well also linked to this account they’re all the same code on every single page as I showed you how to set up early on in the program and then this code will you know fire off and send the information back to Bing so then that information comes into your being dashboard and it registers as a conversion so that’s the most ideal way to set up your business if you own all your web pages and you’re promoting your own product or your own website or whatever then that’s the easiest way to go if you have something like clickfunnels if you have a product funnel you can put code on every single piece of the pate a piece of the the funnel then you’re good then you can set up all this code yourself but there’s a problem with affiliate marketing because obviously you don’t own the website and so since you don’t own the website you can’t place a Bing conversion code on someone else’s website so that’s the problem and the solution is you need a tracking service in between now in previous times and even still with Google they have something called a tracking pixel a tracking pixel is a tiny little piece of code it’s usually like an invisible little pixel like an image that you can put on an affiliates thank-you page and they will eat the if if you’re promoting something like on Clickbank you can contact the vendor of the product and you can ask them to put your tracking pixel code on there Thank You page and they’ll just have like hundreds of you know their affiliates tracking codes on this page so every time the page loads all of those pictures pixels will fire that’s what it’s called when the pixel loads and then the pixel sends back data to the tracking pixel service okay so that’s one solution unfortunately as far as I know Bing does not have a tracking pixel anymore Google still does but Bing doesn’t Bing has switched over completely to this Universal tracking system so you basically need to be able to put the same code on every single piece of page of your website so it doesn’t work the same as a tracking pixel it’s like a different thing so as far as I know you can’t submit that to most affiliate offers so the solution is you need a tracking service to kind of handle all these different moving parts so I’ll show you on this visual diagram here it makes it a little easier to understand so the previous version we had our traffic coming from being which goes to our website which has a universal tracking code on it and then if somebody goes to the Thank You page the universal tracking codes still there but you told it to register as a conversion in your Bing account so then it sends the information back to ping okay so now what we need the traffic will immediately go through a tracking software so three of the most popular ones are clickmagick that’s my personal favorite I’ll talk more about it in a second volume or volume you know that’s really popular with really big affiliates people who are really into like CPA marketing the the pros of the affiliate world definitely flocked to voloom or prosper – OH – so I’ll explain kind of the pros and cons of those in a second but anyways so this is a bit of this is like a separate service that your click goes up into the the as Bing sends it off I send to your click off from Bing it will go to this tracking software that knows that you put it you put a special little thing inside your Bing ad that says it’s a little extra option to your ad at the bottom that says tracking URL and so the tracking URL so first Bing will send the the click to the tracking URL which will be tracked by the tracking software and that collects a bunch of information about where that traffic is coming from for example the you know device that it’s coming from the IP address that it’s coming from the time of day etc so it registers a click there then the tracking software passes that click back onto your website and it will assign a unique click ID to every single click this is the way all these tracking software’s work they take your click from the traffic source and then they assign it a special unique software or a click ID so it can uniquely identify that click later and then it just sees what what happens it doesn’t really bother with you know everything that happens with the click and a lot of people you know they’ll obviously the land on your landing page and then they’ll either leave or they proceed so if they now are on your website and then they do the thing that you set up as a conversion then you tell you set it up in the tracking software that this is a conversion and in the so the tracking software will give you like a pixel that you can use with most affiliate networks if you’re using cpa network peer fly or whatever then you the tracking software like clickmagick or voloom or a volume or prosper 202 will have a click will have a tracking pixel that you give to you can actually just put it right in for the offer that you’re promoting you can just like copy and paste your pixel and it’s the same pixel for everything so it’s pretty easy to set up if they’re using the typical affiliate platform like has offers or cake or whatever I’ll actually explain that right now so this is different obviously because you don’t own all the pieces of the puzzle you might own the landing page that might be on your website unless your direct linking in which case you would skip over and you’re sending right to here but let’s say that you’re using a landing page most affiliates do so you send people to your landing page and you have them either opt in or just like click a button to go to the sales page now the sales page is hosted through the affiliate tracking platform so this would be something like the networks like peer fly or never blue I think is one of them so the networks like that or Clickbank Clickbank I have more experience with but I know how it works some unpure fly and stuff they use a tracking software called cake or has offers or their own tracking platform that kind of manages all this stuff for them all right so you go from your landing page to the affiliate offer and the affiliate offer has the affiliate platform will tell you when a conversion has been registered so somebody goes through your website to the sales page on the affiliate platform or the signup page or whatever and then that person signs up or they buy then it will fire your tracking pixel it’ll land you know it’ll take it to that landing page in your tracks you set up your tracking pixel in the platform in peer fly or whatever and then it will it will fire it it will show up on the thank you page and then this will register as a conversion and then the tracking software will get notification back from from here that your pixel has been fired so you’ve had a conversion and it has still keeping track in inside a cookie in the person’s browser it’s still keeping track of that click ID that unique click ID so it’s been it’s been you know just sitting back and watching to see if a conversion happens if a conversion happens it goes oh okay great a conversion happened and it was associated with click ID you know 5 4 3 2 7 5 and so then it sends that data back to its server and it will tell you the all the it will show you all the converting click IDs so it will say you know click ID 5 4 3 7 2 5 or whatever converted and it also has all that information that is stored in the beginning of the process so we’ll say not only did it convert but here it came from a you know Apple iPhone and it was in New York City New York at you know 12:01 a.m. and and then there’s you know one more kind of important pieces you can tell the tracking software to keep track of things from things so I know this is getting real complicated but I’m guessing if you’re doing affiliate marketing you know you’re gonna have to learn learn this stuff it’s complicated that’s why you know if you’re good at it you make tons and tons of money but you know you gotta you gotta learn this stuff so at the beginning here so I hope this all makes sense at this point the way one more thing with the affiliate tracking platforms they either track by tracking pixel like I’ve already explained like a little bit of code that you just copy and paste into this little box in the in the network or they use postback URL I really explain the technical difference you’ll have to look that up on your own but basically they both serve the same function they’re just a way for the affiliate platform to transmit to your your tracking software that a conversion was registered so in the the only thing is with Clickbank it’s a little different it’s a little weird and that’s why I recommend clickmagick if you’re doing Clickbank I don’t I’m sure that volume has this and prosper – OH – probably does – but I’ve just never personally figured them out so I’ve never used well I’ve used prosper – a – but I found it to be very confusing but anyways click magic has this really nice process for it registers with Clickbank with the postback URL thing it’s a little special for Clickbank it’s different than every other affiliate networks it’s kind of annoying but clickmagick shows you how to do it and I’m going to show you how to do it as well I haven’t I’m not sure yet but okay so that’s that bit so let’s talk about one more thing initially when you set up your ad you can you put in your tracking URL whatever your tracking platform tells you to put in there so that it will register every single click before it goes to your landing page okay but in this process right here you can also pick up a bunch of information from Bing to store in that cookie so that later if somebody converts you get a whole bunch more information about that click it’s all it’s all stored with that unique click ID so some things for example that you can grab from Bing as its passing on to your tracking software is the ad ID so the specific ad from which that click came so if that converts that’s really good to know because now you know that it came from you know all your sales are coming from one out of your four ads so you can just turn off all the other ads because they’re not working and your profits going to shoot through the roof the another thing to track I think is the most important it’s called query string that’s basically what the person searched to get that that’s basically like a keyword but it’s a little more advanced it’s it’s it’s more like an exact phrase exact or phrase match so you get to know exactly the exact or phrase match that that person searched and if they convert you can easily either if you don’t already have that exact or phrase match in your in your ad group you can add it so that you’ll start having more precision or you could create a separate ad group create a new ad that specifically caters so that that keyword or you also know the ones that aren’t converting more importantly with affiliate marketing is eliminating the stuff that doesn’t work so you can see which ones are converting and which ones are not converting and you can turn off all the ones that are not converting so this is just really really important so I will show a separate demonstration at some point of how to set that up specifically with clickmagick because I kind of figured out for myself recently it’s like finally I’ve done it before but it was really confusing I think I got it down to a good good process I can show you but this is this is why you want a tracking software all big affiliates use something I forgot to mention CPV lab that’s another popular one that big some of my super affiliate friends I know they use that so that’s another one to you yeah so that’s the basic process it’s a little confusing I know but you’re gonna have to figure this stuff out because this is what affiliate marketing is all about at least this style of affiliate marketing like media buying traffic to cold like cold traffic media buying affiliate marketing is all about this stuff it’s it’s very tech heavy it’s like tracking pixels and landing pages and ad copy and clicks and you know them will they call Geo’s like different locations different pricing bid strategies it’s it’s a lot of moving pieces and it tends to be really good for like really technical people there are other styles of affiliate marketing by the way that don’t involve all this stuff that can leverage other strengths if that does if this stuff doesn’t appeal to you then there’s still lots of opportunity for affiliate marketing there’s lots of different styles of affiliate marketing okay so with all that covered where do you want to start well I think it depends on your budget and particularly on your tech skills or your willingness to work with like learning tech skills if you’re on a lower budget like I said here are some of the three most popular tracking solutions and I actually would definitely add CPV lab it’s a I think it’s a bit old but and I think it’s about I think it’s $300 a year they do a yearly charge so anyways we got prosper – OH – that’s like the old reliable one it’s free in my opinion it’s very techy very like if you’re a developer we’re very comfortable with coding and stuff then prosper – OH – and CPV lab might be the way to go they’re very robust they have tons of features and if reading code and and you know all the technical stuff doesn’t intimidate you at all then prosper – OH – is a great place to start because it’s free it’s I think you have to you have to host it on your own server so you have to know how to set that up which they make it very easy I’ve done it before even when I didn’t have great tech skills they just don’t make it super duper easy in my opinion I think it’s easy if you’re any sort of developer or like decent with tech stuff and same with CPV lab I think it’s a little nicer it’s a little more robust but they don’t both do the same thing I mean they both they both work so CPV lab is another option volume volume or volume volume is the standard I think these days for affiliate marketing however it starts at $99 a month so you got to be pretty serious and yeah I got to have a decent budget to get started and I haven’t you have never used it I would assume that it’s very easy to use because it’s very popular and I would also assume because I have kind of been in that like community for while of affiliate marketers I see that most of the top people recommend or use it and and they built it for themselves so it’s probably like the standard that you’d want to move up to however clickmagick my favorite is awesome in many ways I think because number one if you’re a beginner or intermediate it starts at $17 a month which is awesome to get all this like tracking stuff down it’s it’s just really nice to start without the pressure of having a $99 a month or $300 a year thing and without so much technology is the thing no matter which one you do you’re gonna have to learn a lot of tech stuff but clickmagick I know for sure is geared towards not super tech heavy people I know because it’s benefiting me and I’m pretty good with tech stuff but it’s still the stuff is very dense for non developer type people so quick magic makes it really as easy as it can be to learn they have a really really great tutorials they have videos showing you speaks in normal speak they translate everything into you know really understandable terms so that you can understand these really complex things and implement them and execute them but you you can just follow they’re easy easy to use tutorials so I highly recommend click magic to start now if you already know how to do this stuff you’re more advanced then go for one of the other three options but yeah I recommend click magic I’m gonna put a link below the video and you know if you want to go check out click magic I
