Creating Your First Ad Group
all right now we’ve got our conversion data set up we’ve got our account started it’s time to create our first campaign it’s pretty simple enough to understand you just click create campaign ok there’s lots of different options when you’re creating a campaign most of the time I’d say 80% of you would probably just want to go gonna want to go with visits to my website if you’re just doing a basic lead gen campaign mmm or if you’re just selling a single product if you have a local business this might be of interest to you I haven’t personally tested conversions in my website that might actually be really useful I haven’t haven’t used it yet if you have a local business as well phone calls can be very useful these will actually allow people to call your number directly from the ad like click a button and the phone will start ringing which is pretty amazing has really great results with some local businesses dynamic search ads I haven’t used these personally says that there if you have a really huge website with tons of products you might be interested in that so you don’t have to manually input all of the keywords and stuff it will just kind of I guess figure it out from your web page and then bing shopping again I don’t have a ton of experience with this is more ecommerce if you have a big store with lots of products then that would be kind of a separate separate thing if these things are really relevant to you then let me know and I can research them more and you know offer some suggestions but I’m gonna guess most people are gonna need visits to my website that’s always would I go with now there are some other very relevant options here research keywords with the keyword planner tool we’re definitely going to want to do that I don’t want to do it right now but we’ll we’ll do another video explaining more the power of this tool and how to use it you can also import from a file I don’t really have any experience doing that import from Google AdWords if you do have a successful Google AdWords campaign you can try importing I personally would just recreate the ad groups fresh in Bing because I’ve tried to import over from AdWords before and I have not had great results at least in the past it would mess up bids for example so one time for a client I imported everything and thought it was all great it got all the keywords got all the ads etc but what I didn’t notice is that the bids had doubled or sometimes tripled it just completely messed up the bids so that was a pretty expensive day and kind of embarrassing for me so I would use this with caution it sounds like a great solution sounds like it’ll save you a lot of time and it might but I would just go with visits good old-fashioned visits to my website now a campaign name that’s going to be different based on whatever you’re up to let’s go mmm now the way that I like to separate campaigns we’ll talk about this for a second is by country so and also you know by topic but the topics can be pretty broad because your ad groups are really going to be where you’re gonna dig into each little theme or topic with much more detail the campaigns can be pretty broad but you might go let’s say let’s say you’re gonna do back pain if you’re if you have a solution to back pain I would go back pain us and this is gonna vary you know budgets are gonna vary for every person you can definitely get started for as little as five dollars a day ten dollars a day ten dollars a day is pretty decent if you have a bigger budget you can start off with you know 50 or 100 if you want to start getting some data pretty fast and by the way approval is usually pretty fast with being so you can actually realistically have clicks coming to your website within just a couple of hours if you get your account approved you can have a lot of traffic actually coming to your website within just a few hours especially if you turn up the budget I always go with English here obviously if you’re speaking another language that might change and by default it selects United States and Canada I I really for most of the clients I’ve worked with United States and Canada can be quite different as far as conversion rates the profit per sale because there’s international you know shipping charges involved taxes etc so I would always keep them separate and for most products I’m guessing you’re probably going to want to start in the United States and then if you find a winning angle campaign or if your product works in the US then first thing first priority would be rolling out out to Canada and then probably to you know Australia New Zealand the United Kingdom all the other english-speaking countries are a good place to roll it out to but start with the US unless you know for sure you know if you have an office in Canada or something obviously that’s that’s going to be different for you but if you’re running a general niche product that could that could be sold to anyone generally just start in the US and then turn off this option people searching for or viewing pages about your targeted locations this is just gonna give you a bit more control over who’s seeing your ads these are they’re only going to be people who are currently inside the country that you chose or I forgot this as well for for local type businesses it might not be United States at all you actually might just be looking at you know Boston Massachusetts if you if your business is only in Boston then you can put in you can put in a zip code so Austin Texas you could target that mm-hmm give you target a whole city well let’s go with Austin still you can go yeah you can see there 25 miles around that area we could just go with Texas if your product is just for Texas so there’s a lot of flexibility with this tool actually that’ll just depend on what your business is so if you’re just a local local service or product then you know take advantage of the targeting options here you don’t want to run ads to everybody in the country if you’re only selling something to people in Texas but either way select this option people in your targeted locations and unselect the other option so we’re going to go save and go to the next step this is what it looks like by the way when you’re first setting up your account too so the depending on which version of the product you’re watching I wasn’t able to sign up for an account quickly enough so this is basically what it looks like whenever you first create your account after you set up your payment information they just asked you to set up your first ads so I’m gonna go [Music] so at you’re also creating your first ad group here now remember the way that we’re gonna be creating ad groups is we’re gonna create one for Bing and Yahoo and one for the syndicated partners so you just create one here and then we’re going to use the Bing ads editor in another video I’m going to show you how to read duplicate this ad group in about 10 seconds and it’s amazing so for our first ad group I just I know I name this back pain but I’m gonna go with you know digital marketing services mm-hmm and let’s say let’s say I’m gonna just do a campaign for Austin Texas so digital marketing services Austin Texas we’re gonna talk about keyword types more in another video in depth in the some of the more advanced training but this is just a broad match keyword so this is going to find a lot of things that are very similar now it’s looking at my website that I put in and it’s giving me suggestions of four keywords I might want to use based on you know just kind of crawled through my website and saw some of the keywords that I use on the articles that I’ve written and it’s making some suggestions here you know cloak recent comments one step that would be a terrible keyword up Bing ads you know obviously got us some stuff about Bing ads on there so this is this is how I would set up my very first ad group I would probably I would just take the same keyword and I would do a broad match a phrase match and an exact match if you really really want to be you know budget conscientious and only spend on things that are most likely to convert then you’re gonna have to come up with a list of exact match keywords again we’ll talk more about that this is a pretty good you know first ad group for a particular thing oh so one other thing I would do is I’m gonna start this one off with the ad group is whatever the the topic is the of the keywords – Bing and then the other one is gonna be – syndicated so there’s my first my first ad group I’m gonna save and go to the next step this is where you create your first ad let’s see I’ll just use my homepage for the final URL this is probably you’re probably going to want this to be your landing page though you know whatever whatever the landing page is for whatever thing you’re you’re doing the product you’re selling or the lead magnet you’re offering the solution you’re offering it’s a title part one I’m just gonna go digital marketing services located in Austin Texas I’m gonna have a another quick little video section where I talk more about I had writing but the main thing you want to focus on with ads is just to keep it relevant to the keywords that’s actually gonna help you tremendously right out of the gates to get a great click-through rate and that’s going to help you as your account grows and optimizes and matures it’s actually going to help you a lot so again we’ll talk more about that but putting the whatever you put in the keywords let’s say digital digital market you know marketing Austin you just want to have the keywords in the ad kind of as many times as possible but still make it look normal you know not like like a robot wrote it sustainably grown flowers and by the way when you’re when you’re creating this ad obviously you can see what its gonna look like over here which is really nice you can see exactly what your ads looking like you know is it today for the best tips on how to grow your business okay there are character limits that are obviously very important so you have you have some limitations here for as far as like copy you know all of these different parts have different limitations if you have a special landing page for mobile you can put it in here but I’m just gonna go with that click Save maybe save save mmm-hmm okay cool did save if you want to create more you can create different ones to split test against each other and see which one performs the best you can click copy had and then edit that and you could say digital marketing the best in digital marketing it’s like you might just I would probably start with just testing the first headline it’s the most likely thing that people would see if you’re gonna split test things so there’s two ads site links we don’t have to get into more of an advanced thing you don’t need to do any of this stuff until later it’s optimized ation stuff save and go to the next thing okay so you got your daily budget originally I was recommending using manual for the bid strategy so that you have the most control I’m thinking that the way the future is enhanced CPC but I would still start with manual until you have lots of conversions because in the beginning you know Bing isn’t really gonna have many conversions to go off of so you need to enhance CPC basically just says that Bing is going to use some sort of automatic algorithm to try to adjust bids dynamically so that you’re going to get more conversions I haven’t tested it extensively yet I’ve only been using it the last few months so I really can’t say for sure that that’s the way to go but I like manual I do not like maximize clicks at all because I’m guessing if you’re watching this you probably like me I very rarely click care about how many clicks I get that’s more of like a big-budget advertising firm goal I really don’t care how many clicks I get I care about what it costs me to convert somebody whether they’re buying a product or they’re opting in either way I have to know what the cost per acquisition is the cost per sale or the cost per lead whatever I just have to know that that’s all I care about I don’t care about getting more clicks if they’re not converting I only want to get conversions so I would start with manual it gives you the most control it’s gonna give you control over every single keyword for and you can bid separately on every single keyword now here’s where you give your basic default bid this is probably going to depend on your budget and on your niche so for example there are certain categories of services or products that are much more competitive and the average lead or client is worth much more you know medical fields for example if you’re bidding on dentistry or rehab or something like that I’ve seen in the rehab niche I’ve seen clicks go for as much as $100 a click lawyers a lot of you know any sort of service where an average client might be worth tens of thousands of dollars then people are willing to bid a lot more per click if it’s a general sort of informational niche or it’s not something that is hyper competitive like that then you’re probably gonna get clicks for less than a dollar probably I generally start with 50 cents unless I really want to just kind of get the juices flowing if I really want to get the juices flowing and then adjust from there I might start with a dollar like if you have a little more flexibility in your budget or if you already know from keyword research which we’ll show in another video that your niche is more competitive so for example if Bing is suggesting you know that you bid three dollars and 50 cents for a certain keyword you might not have to bid that but you know that it’s going to be more than 50 Cent’s so you’re probably gonna have to bid at least $1.00 to see if you can start getting clicks we’ll talk more about bid strategy later it’s really important it’s kind of advanced but I would suggest if you have patience and maybe a smaller budget try for 50 Cent’s that’s pretty likely to get some some stuff going unless your niche is very competitive if you don’t get any clicks at all then Bing will actually tell you what the suggested bid to start getting some clicks is which is really handy it’s not it’s pretty accurate so you know they’re not just trying to get as much money out of you as possible they’re they’re pretty honest about the auction if you’re if you’re bidding 30 cents and they say you know to get on the first page you’re gonna have to bid 75 cents then it’s probably gonna be somewhere around 75 cents it might not be up too high again I’m kind of getting into bidding stuff I’ll talk about that more later but either start with 50 cents or dollar depending on your niche I’m gonna start with 50 cents and you can go up or down from there based on the results okay location in this particular case this is where you would set bid adjustments for different locations but we’re gonna keep that controlled at the campaign level so in this particular case we’re just going for United States ad schedule I don’t worry too much about that obviously if you’re a particular business you know only runs if you’re doing like a call campaign and you’re only open from you know 9:00 to 5:00 then you probably don’t want to run call ads after 5:00 because it’s gonna be a waste of your money so that could be really important in the ad schedule if you do want to set that you could go Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. you know then it’ll only run your ads during that time but I don’t have any particular restrictions on that right now device I wouldn’t mess with this yet that’s gonna come in when we start doing segmenting I would keep them all wide open in the beginning to see how your particular niche product etc perform now this part is important ad distribution this is where we’re gonna set up that our ads are only going to be shown on the Bing and Yahoo search Network so here we’re gonna go search Network and then click Bing AOL and Yahoo you remember this ad group I named it digital marketing services – Bing so it’s going to be about digital marketing services that particular kind of like phrasing idea etc and it’s only gonna be on Bing and then later in another video I’m going to show you how to replicate this into a copy the exact same campaign into the syndicated this is the syndicated Search Partners so that’s a different option you could do it all manually but it’s so much easier to do with the Bing ads editor I’ll I’ll show you how to do that but you could do it manually if you’re setting up like if you know for example that this particular keyword etc work doesn’t work on being at all it works on this indicated then you could just select that right here but yeah choose bings since that’s what we called it we call this one Bing it’s gonna be the exact same keywords and all that stuff so now it’s going to go into review a lot of people freak out about reviews I had definitely have in the past it’s kind of the campaign name by the way it doesn’t really matter that much you can change it any time it’s just on the surface it doesn’t change anything with with Bing so that ad you can see we have our ad groups here we have our settings here we have our ads that we wrote hmm I’m not actually sure why as like 15 copies of that ad I’ve never seen that before hmm this is pending editorial review okay so yeah ads will get reviewed usually within a few hours it might take a day or two most of the time they’re fine unless you unless you’re in a particular niche that they don’t like or they have some extra red flags around for example if you’re in like sort of a medical niche and you mention any sort of pharmaceutical drugs or anything those will get flagged pretty immediately if you are bidding on certain brand names that will get flagged certain ideas may be like violent or adult themes would probably get flagged I don’t really have any experience with that but yeah congratulations you’ve created your first campaign in your first ad group that’s pretty exciting probably within a few hours if not then maybe a day or two you’ll start you’ll get the ad approved and hopefully some impressions at least will start coming in you can just change the time frame to today and just keep refreshing this and you know you’ll you’ll start seeing it show impression sometimes within like an hour depending on the topic and how much traffic there is and all that stuff impressions will start showing and maybe even some clicks maybe even some conversions we’ll talk more about this stuff here but you can you know see your conversions over here so yeah that’s that’s your first ad group
