How To Set Up Conversion Goals

Auto-generated transcript

okay now this part is very very important if you remember from all the many times I have and will continue to mention it you want to set up conversion tracking as soon as possible so the way that you do that is you need this bit of code that needs to go on every single page of your website at the very very least it has to go on your landing pages if you’re only running a couple landing pages you can just put it on those pages if you’re doing like hard HTML coding or or whatever if you’re using a landing page builder you can just drop the code in the bottom but I would recommend putting it on every single page of your website so you’ll want to go to conversion tracking and first you have to set up a UET tag that is the code that’s going to go on every page of your website so you yeah you create a UET tag name it something and then give it a description so this again this is the code that’s going to go on every single page your website you’re gonna create your conversion goals in the next step so just create that now this is the code that you’re going to want to click copy and then copy all this and then if you’re using just a basic WordPress theme this is going to be slightly different for every single you know solution that you’re using for landing pages if you’re using a really basic WordPress theme then you’re gonna want to put this on in your actual yeah they don’t recommend doing this you need it to go on every single page your website so you’re gonna need to like put it in your footer so I think theme footer again they’re they’re trying to discourage you from doing this because editing your own footer code is kind of silly in a bit dangerous it can mess up your theme so I believe it would go right here right before the actually let’s check into every page your website okay so it just needs to be somewhere where it’s going to load every single time a page in your website loads so if you’re just doing a WordPress theme then it will need to go in your footer now there are plugins that will allow you to do this as well that will put it into the header or footer I’ve used one in the past called I believe it’s called header and footer insert footer code insert headers and footers yeah this this is probably a good bet I’ll also just add the search for Bing ads uvt see if there’s anything for that okay I mean this one has 400 installs this has 700 but zero stars I don’t know if I would use this what I use is I use almost always use thrive dashboard so you would go to the thrive themes and then go to analytics and scripts and you can put your tracking scripts in here so this is the yep this is the UET tag right here in my header so this will go on every page that’s loaded by my theme if you want to see if it’s there just load up any page on your website right click and go to view page source and then search for Yui tea so you can see that it’s loaded on my web page now if you’re using clickfunnels is very simple I may shoot another video showing you exactly how to do that but it just you just put it in the code for your whole funnel yeah I’ll probably make another video showing you how to do that but if you’re just using WordPress you’re gonna need to put it in the header or the footer consult your theme that you’re using for that it’s gonna be kind of different for every theme you might you might want to look for a plug-in that does it that can insert the code for you gets a little risky that’s why I’d like to use these paid solutions now like thrive themes because it just makes it all so simple or I’m sure well I know that that leadpages does it makes inserting code very very simple or if you’re using any of the other landing page creators on bounce or whatever they all make it very easy to insert this kind of code but you need to make sure that this code is on at least every single webpage that you’re gonna be sending traffic to ideally it’s on every page of your website so the next step after that after you have your UET tag set up and this will this will once you you know browse around on your web page this is my actual uet that i’m using so once you browser on your web page and being gets to see that that code has been loaded from your web page then this will change from unverified to tagged active so that’s how you know that your uet is tagged is working so next you need to create a specific conversion goal you can create these for all different sorts of things you can create them for every time somebody opts in on a landing page and then lands on the Thank You page you could create it for every time somebody makes a sale you know if you’re using a solution like Shopify or WooCommerce or something there’s you know you can you can have it set up for the Thank You page after they purchase something you could really set it up for any page on your website you could create a conversion goal for and Bing is gonna track from the ad and the keyword the ad group everything every single level they’re gonna track where that person clicked at the beginning and if they hit that conversion goal so it’s really really important it’s absolutely essential you should not be running Bing ads if you don’t have this can goal set up for whatever your goal is now this is an opt-in goal we can you can take a look at it by clicking edit say opt-in so this is tracking every time somebody opts in for a particular offer that I have had on my website I chose destination URL this is the one that I use almost every single time I mean these are all kind of four different types of businesses I think if you’re watching this course you’re probably a digital marketer specifically like a direct response type of marketer maybe e-commerce and you’re probably gonna use destination URL that just means when they land on a certain page so in this case I used equals to just to do the exact page and I have a thank you page I’m not sure if this is set up yet but but so all I’d have to do is is create this page with this exact URL and the code will already be on there because I put it in my theme so if you put it in your footer it will already be on that page and it will be able to load this is different for everybody to each conversion action has the same value if you know you’re only selling one product and let’s say it’s a hundred dollars then you could just say every conversion is worth a hundred dollars you know that they’re only landing on that page if they buy the product from Bing and you know that you only have one product and the only price point is a hundred dollars then I would put that in this gets much more advanced if you’re using Shopify it’s actually pretty easy to change the value you know per item there’s just a bit of code you have to insert in the Shopify language whatever but this is just generally more advanced you know I don’t have a whole lot of experience with this usually either I’m running for a product that there’s only one product that has one price or I just go don’t assign a value because let’s say it’s just an opt-in then you may or may not have a lifetime you associated with that opt-in if you don’t you might not know what they’re worth yet you just want to know that they’re converting so most of the time you’re gonna go with don’t assign a value maybe each conversion has the same if you know it for sure now this is another really important thing to pay attention to when you’re creating your conversion goal when I first setup a conversion goal you know many years ago for Google AdWords I remember I didn’t know about this and I chose all so it says for example if one ad click leads to three purchases that will count as three conversions that sounds nice but what they don’t really mention is that it also counts people reloading their thank-you page which I’m sure I do this as a consumer as well but for some reason man people just love to reload that thank-you page and the first time I ran an ad for one of my own products I got so excited because you know Google was saying I had six or seven conversions and all but all I could see in my ecommerce tracking you know in WooCommerce was one conversion so I was so confused and it really throws off your data really fast so you want to make sure that almost all the time I think most people are going to use unique that’s gonna be one customer convert and that’s it you don’t because if they reload their Thank You page it’s going to count as another conversion another conversion and it’s going to totally throw off your cost per acquisition which is the most important metric we’ll talk about later or cost per lead that we’re gonna be optimizing for and so yeah you’re you’re almost always gonna want unique so there’s only one person converts and that’s it if they keep reloading the Thank You page and it keeps reloading the code if bing knows that that’s the same person it’s still only gonna count as one that’s pretty important conversion period I usually just go 90 days so this this just means that if somebody clicks on the ad and then comes back to your website you know 14 days later and ends up buying they will get they will still count as a conversion I don’t really know you know why people what situations would lead to people needing different conversion windows but you know if that applies to you then you might want to change this to shorter 90 days is the maximum so most clients that I work with usually just sell like one product or just a few products so usually people only either but either buy them or don’t and then the UET tag that it’s going to be associated with this should just be whatever you set up in the previous step and installed on every single page your website you only have to set up one UET tag one time for a four year account now you can set up multiple conversion goals because you might have you know lots of different opt-in like lead magnets you might have lots of different products that you’re selling and you could track different conversion goals for each one of them but you only need one UET tag so that is how you set up your the most important thing when you’re just starting out is to get your conversion tracking working and set up and I know it’s a pain in the butt I’ve gone through it with clients man if people get pretty annoyed because it can be a kind of techie issue for example if you’re using a solution like you know ontraport or what are some of the other big like CRM things if you’re not just using a very simple solution it can kind of get confusing and you might have to involve you know some sort of tech person to come in because you just you just need this bit of code to show up on every single webpage on your on your website so that’s what you need to tell them if you are going to work with a developer or something just tell them I just need this code to show up on every single page of the website no matter what and so however they need to do that with your the system that you’re using that’s what needs to happen from there you can create all the conversion goals you want and they don’t need to be involved at all it’s very simple you’ll just you know pick from one of your URLs as your conversion goal and that’s it but that code needs to be needs to load on every page so just tell them if you’re working it with a developer tell them that that uet code give them the code copy paste that needs to go on every single page of the website and it needs to load every single time anybody visits any page that’s it and then you can create all of the conversion goals very very easily I hope that was helpful it was kind of an in-depth look at how to set up conversion tracking but it’s absolutely essential no matter what you’re doing if you’re just collecting leads if you’re trying to sell a product working with client whatever you absolutely need to have conversion goals set up that’s non-negotiable all right we’ll see you in the next video
