If you’re a beginner when it comes to WordPress, then learning how to install a plugin can seem daunting. However, it’s actually quite simple and only takes a few minutes. In this article, we’ll walk you through the process of installing a WordPress plugin, step-by-step.
Before we get started, it’s important to note that there are two different ways to install WordPress plugins: via the admin dashboard or by manually uploading the plugin files. We’ll cover both methods so that you can choose the one that’s best for you.
How to Install a WordPress Plugin via the Admin Dashboard
The easiest way to install a WordPress plugin is via the admin dashboard. First, you’ll need to log into your WordPress site. Once you’re logged in, click on the “Plugins” link in the left-hand sidebar.
On the Plugins page, you’ll see a list of all the plugins that are currently installed on your site. At the top of the page, there’s a search bar where you can search for specific plugins.
To install a new plugin, click on the “Add New” button.
On the Add New page, you can search for plugins by keyword or author. Once you’ve found a plugin that you’d like to install, click on the “Install Now” button.
Once the plugin has been installed, you’ll need to activate it. To do this, click on the “Activate Plugin” link.
And that’s it! The plugin is now installed and activated on your WordPress site.
How to Install a WordPress Plugin Manually
If you prefer, you can also install WordPress plugins manually. To do this, you’ll first need to download the plugin file from the developer’s website.
Once you have the plugin file, you’ll need to login to your WordPress site via FTP. If you’re not sure how to do this, check out our guide on how to use FTP to transfer files to your WordPress site.
Once you’re logged in via FTP, navigate to the “wp-content/plugins” folder. Inside this folder, you’ll upload the plugin file that you downloaded earlier.
Once the file has been uploaded, you can return to the Plugins page in your WordPress admin dashboard. The plugin should now be visible in the list of installed plugins. From here, you can activate the plugin as normal.
And that’s all there is to it! These are the two methods for installing WordPress plugins. As you can see, the process is actually quite simple.
