The 7 Profit Activators
what’s up everybody it’s the nomads Brad and I’m here to bring you this special presentation on the seven being ads prophet activators the steps that you should apply today to your account for an instant profit boost alright let’s get right into it so profit activator number one I’ve mentioned this in other videos I’m gonna keep mentioning it because it literally can transform an account from unprofitable to profitable it can drastically grow the profitability of accounts and most people don’t do it because Bing does not make it very obvious why you should do it or what it is so I’m gonna explain it right now and this is profit activator number one separate Bing and Yahoo search and syndicated now what does this mean Bing and Yahoo are obviously searches that happen from the Bing Bing com or yahoo.com when people go to one of those web sites and they search for something then the ad is going to be shown on literally on one of those pages for the relevant keyword now syndicated is a totally different ballgame it’s a little bit more like the Google Display Network this is Bing ads being shown on a network of websites all over the internet so it’s a bit of a different performance a lot of times it’s really different for every different campaign and AD group certainly for different markets these are going to perform differently it kind of makes sense in some markets and some ad groups campaigns the Bing ads perform way better and you might think oh that makes sense because people who go to Bing com are like higher quality visitors that might be true but in fact a lot of times in different accounts I actually see the opposite where Bing and Yahoo are too competitive there’s too many people bidding on those keywords so the cost per click is too expensive for this particular product and syndicated is something that a lot of people will actually turn off because advice from a couple of years ago said to just turn off syndicated placements because they were junk so you should be really excited right now and laughing at all those people and even yourself in the past if you turned off syndicated traffic because you assumed that it was junk that was probably a mistake there are high-quality buyers they a lot of times the cost per click is much more competitive because there is less competition on these placements and the thing is where as Bing and Yahoo is pretty straightforward it’s a similar to in Google a search campaign just straight-up PPC bid on keywords etc the syndicated is a kind of a mix of a display campaign and a search campaign so you’re still bidding on keywords you don’t have much more control over that you can’t upload images or anything like that but there is also an element of optimizing by placements so if you’ve ever run a a display campaign of any kind from media buying sources or on the Google Display Network you know that one of the optimization tools is to optimize by placement well you can do that with syndicated so we’re gonna get into that later but for now look into the options here when you’re setting up a campaign or an ad group I recommend on the ad group level so when you’re setting up ad groups all the way I always create one of one copy of the ad group that is on the Bing and Yahoo Network as you can see here you get to select this option in the ad group options and then I create another one that is on the syndicated network because the performance is almost always wildly different sometimes the syndicated is more expensive or just doesn’t convert whatever and sometimes Bing is too expensive and doesn’t convert or sometimes they both convert they but they convert at very different prices you just want to filter these out right away this literally can transform campaigns just this one step and you might think well that’s a lot of work to have to create two different ad groups for every single every single ad group that I want to create I have to create two different ones yeah I encountered that as well and I got pretty annoyed and that’s why I’ve discovered profit activator number two actually I knew about the Google ads Google AdWords editor if you’re familiar with that tool it’s software that you download to your computer that can automate a lot of the stuff that the web interface can’t and it’s just a really handy tool you can handle massive amounts of changes to your account with just a few clicks of a button literally like you just copy it paste and it will duplicate it out to hundreds of campaigns hundreds of keywords thousands of whatever’s you can make one little change in the adwords editor and it gets instantly you know put out to your whole account and anyways a while ago they created a clone of that software for Bing ads so now there’s a Bing ads editor actually there has been for a long time the big revelation for me was when they made one for Mac because I did not have a Windows computer so now they have it for Windows and Mac it’s amazing it will save you so much time which is exactly why I call it a prophet activator because your willpower to optimize and create new campaigns and ad groups that is going to skyrocket when you know you only have to do instead of going through and manually copying and pasting or like exporting to an excel sheet and then importing back into the campaigns all that stuff you literally just click two buttons in the Bing ads editor and you can instantly duplicate for example like I was just saying if you have an ad group that’s about you know where to buy apples well I said that you should create one ad group that’s where to buy apples Bing and Yahoo and then you should create one ad group that’s where to buy apples syndicated mmm the easiest way to do that by far in about 30 seconds is to create the ad group either in the web interface or in Bing ads editor then open up Bing ads editor and literally click copy to the where to buy apples Bing and Yahoo campaign and then click paste it will duplicate the entire ad group all the keywords all the ads everything and then you literally just have to change the name change it to where to buy apples syndicated so you just have to create the rename it where to buy apples syndicated and then you change the setting inside of being added ads out of editor to only show on syndicated networks so the big ads editor in short what is it it’s software that helps you massively increase your productivity within Bing ads helps you duplicate campaigns really quickly has just so many powerful features that you know I’ve only barely scratched the surface of them it just adds so much to your ability to duplicate yourself and your efforts with Bing ads so it’s definitely a profit activator what does it cost it’s actually free you just have to download it from Microsoft and they do have it on both Windows and Mac definitely download it immediately if you’re gonna do anything with Bing ads get the Bing ads editor right away it’s incredible what does it do it basically has all the functionality and lots more of the web interface and it does it so much faster so it just isn’t incredible now where to get it just Google Bing ads editor especially you know if you have a Mac Bing as editor for Mac alright profit activator number three this is testing keyword placeholder ads I’ve known about these things for a while but I haven’t really used them until recently and holy cow they have doubled my click-through rate in some instances now some campaigns some ad groups they actually don’t perform as well but across the board mostly they perform very very well literally doubling click-through rate in a lot of campaigns so it’s definitely something you want to test obviously you have to test for conversions click-through rate always isn’t the most important thing but basically what these things do is you you type exactly like you see on the screen right there you would put in the bracket the little squiggly and type keyword colon and then whatever you want to finish your ad headline with you know for example where to buy apples you could type bracket keyword colon where to buy apples end bracket and then whatever the rest of your head copy is going to do and what this is going to do is when that person searches for a certain keyword no matter what it is it’s dynamically gonna insert that keyword into the ad where it says keyword so if they say where to buy apples in Indiana then that’s exactly what’s going to show up in the ad and then it’s going to be followed by whatever you put like in this example here it says digital marketing secrets so if somebody searches for AdWords advice my ad as it’s shown on the screen right now is going to say when they search for Adwords advice it’s gonna say AdWords advice : digital marketing secrets and then if they search for Bing ads advice it’s going to say Bing ads advice digital marketing secrets so you have to be a little creative about how to structure these things I’ve really only scratched the surface of this and this is the main place I’ve been using them as like the first headline on the ad but it’s very easy to do I was always kind of confused by them I didn’t really know exactly what it was doing but definitely test it out you can also use the tool to fill in whatever their keyword that they actually searched for anywhere in the ad I haven’t really gotten too much into that I’ve only used it as the first headline but this can definitely skyrocket click-through rates which is amazing for your account performance all right profit activator number four I’m gonna say this so many times but it cannot be skipped if you’re hoping you can get away with not setting up conversion data you’re wrong you absolutely have to have conversion data I know you might think well if I just spend a hundred bucks and I make 200 then it’ll be good enough no because you might be making that $200 on ten dollars within your campaigns you don’t know that so it might be totally worth it to go in and turn off everything except for wherever you’re getting that $10 to $200 conversion but you don’t know that if you don’t have your conversion data set up so you have to set it up non-negotiable if you’re not running with conversion data you are just wasting money even if you’re making a profit it’s so easy for that to go away if you don’t have control if you don’t know exactly where your conversions are coming from your profit can go away literally in a day because being might just add new inventory or you know if you increase your bids or decrease your bids or whatever all your profit can go away in a day if you don’t have everything set up accurately so definitely set up your conversion data from day one don’t even waste time testing without conversion data because it’s going to be pretty much useless I’ve done this in the past I know because it can be kind of hard to figure out exactly how to set it up sometimes and I thought I don’t care I just want to get this thing running if it makes a profit great well it’s just stupid and and before I knew all these steps I I had the potential to be making literally twice as much money for some of my clients but I would try a Bing campaign before I knew all this stuff and I thought oh I should work and then it might work for a couple days and holy cow I’ve just opened up a whole new revenue stream this is amazing and then a couple days later it starts to lag and then a couple days later I’m losing money and then a week later I’m a thousand dollars in the hole and we have to turn off the whole Bing ads initiative so definitely no bueno definitely need to set up your conversion data all right profit activator number five get comfortable with segmenting your data you see that little segment option that the arrow is pointing to this is going to give you some different options in your campaigns to segment by the most important for me has been segmenting by device type so again just like with all paid traffic you never know what is going to perform the best so segmenting your traffic by computer versus smartphone versus tablet can be very important again a lot of people will say just turn off smartphone and tablet because desktop is the best quality traffic well if you do that you might be missing out on tons of profit tons of sales because on different products people opt in or buy on smart phones and tablets like crazy so if you’re just turning them off to try to be profitable from the beginning that might work but in some cases it’s the computer that has you know the worst traffic the worst that’s my timer it has the worst conversion rate or cost per click or whatever and you just never know that you might have had this stream of very profitable mobile traffic smartphone traffic that you could have tapped into so click on that segment button it will immediately show you it’ll drop down below just like you can see on the screen here by computer smartphone and tablet and you can see here that a tablet has spent eighty nine dollars and made zero conversions so I might go in and adjust the bids for tablet to be either significantly lower or just turn them off entirely once I have the data and then the other ones are performing about the same so smartphone and computer are performing about the same so if you just assume but look at the cost per click difference this one’s 21 cents this one’s on average 25 cents this the smartphone gets a lot more clicks has a higher CTR but computer actually has a lower CPA so these are all just gonna be different for every ad group campaign you can’t just to make assumptions across the board you have to test it out so you can also segment by network for example the Bing ads versus syndicated you could do it that way that’s kind of a sloppy way to see what’s performing better if you’ve never set up separate campaigns then that might be a good way to check click on segment and then segment by network and you’ll be able to see whoa syndicated did really well so that will be a good reason to switch that campaign over to Bing and Yahoo and create a whole new syndicated campaign there’s some other options to segment by two but those are the two that I’ve used the most but you shouldn’t need to segment by network because you’re gonna be from now on creating all your ad groups one in Bing and Yahoo and one in syndicated all right prophet activator six keywords isolate and eliminate this is a general strategy you’re gonna want to start off with isolating as many longtail keywords as possible and exact match keywords if you know what that means and then phrase match as well to a lesser degree and then you can have a like usually one broad match campaign per ad group that’s going to go out and be sort of exploring finding new keywords for you I’ve talked about this in other videos but stick to the isolate and eliminate plan and you’re going to skyrocket your profitability and and your account performance so you’re actually going to get cheaper clicks higher quality score because over time you’re going to be plucking out the exact match and phrase match options that you get from your broad match so your broad match is going to go out and collect possible keywords for you even just search phrases you don’t even have to get clicks it’ll just show you what people are searching for that’s showing four and then you can click Add to those search phrases and add them as exact match or phrase match so then from then on you’re gonna have much more control and you can even create separate ad groups that only contain those exact match phrases so your goal with keywords is to isolate and eliminate you want to isolate exact match terms as you collect them as you let Bing go out there and figure out what people are searching for that’s related and then some things are going to be vyas candidates for negative keywords so if you’re searching for or if you have a campaign around apples and you’re selling actual apples then you definitely don’t want to be showing up for searches for Apple computers because you just know a hundred percent well not 100% but 99.9 percent of the people who are searching for Apple computers are not in the right mode to be buying an apple an actual Apple so you’re gonna want to look through your keywords as your broad match keywords go out and collect relevant things or you can be proactive and put them in up front if you can think like well I don’t want anything related to computer so I’m just going to put computer as a negative keyword that would be a good idea but if not you can just let it run and then as you get more data you can say oh a lot of people are searching for Apple Computer so this is just a handy way to remember isolate and eliminate eliminate negative keywords that you definitely don’t want to be showing your ads for because that’s gonna waste your money and it’s gonna lower your click-through rates and isolate exact match keywords and phrase match keywords as you as you’re broad match campaigns or keywords go collect them then isolate them to their own ad groups or at least to their own keywords so that you start bidding on them individually this is gonna be huge and finally profit activator 7 this is what I was talking about before this is optimized syndicated placements otherwise known as the website URL report so again you must have conversion data set up for this to be useful without it then you’re just guessing on clicks I mean it’s pretty it’s just useless unless you have conversion data set up and you know which ones are leading to opt-ins or which ones are leading to sales depending on what you’re doing you absolutely need conversion setup having said that if you go into reports and Bing and then go to website URL publisher reports then it’s going to give you a list and this is for the syndicated campaigns by the way within the syndicated campaigns remember I said if you’re from earlier with this it might not make any sense if you’re a beginner but if you’re familiar with this terminology it’s like a Google Display Network campaign so it’s showing on different web sites all over here you can see for this particular ad group or campaign some of the websites that the ads are showing on our topics webmd.com health 24/7 comm and net find com and you can see that all of them have different cost per acquisition z’ i’ve highlighted that on the right so a lot of them are being in Yahoo search which will be contained in your Bing and Yahoo search ad group but for the syndicated ad groups then you can get a report which is a little clunky right now unfortunately it’s not as nice as the Google Display Network where you can see all of your publishers in the web interface you actually have to either you know you have to run this report manually and this is why a lot of people might know about this tactic but they’re not actually gonna do it it would be stupid not to so what you want to do is after you’re collecting data for a while sort the results by cost-per-acquisition and anything that’s above your cost your target cost act back sorry anything that’s above your target cost per acquisition then you’re gonna want to go into the campaign and then select an option down at the bottom at the campaign options or at the ad group options and you want to do a website exclusion and then you’ll just copy whatever website like it’s shown here so let’s say that topics that webmd.com is way too expensive for CPA for your cost per acquisition it’s costing you way too much to get customers from there so you cut it you would copy topics not webmd.com or whatever the URL is and then you go into your ad group settings and you would paste that into the excluded publishers or excluded websites list and then save it so now from just like adding a negative keyword we’ll just prevent you from showing on a crappy keyword that’s not making you money this is now going to vent you from showing on crappy websites that aren’t making you money this is amazing you can imagine just like you might have had that $10 sliver of traffic that was creating $200 profit you might have at that with these syndicated publishers as well you might look at your whole syndicated campaign and go ah you know I’m losing money okay I got I better turn the whole syndicated thing off but if you’re not looking into these website URL placement optimization options then you might be missing a stream of profitable traffic because there might be one publisher in there that is killing it is getting let’s say your cost your target cost per acquisition is $100 there might be one publisher in there that’s getting a target cost per acquisition of ten dollars use that analogy again and you’re gonna throw it out with the whole syndicated campaign just because the other ones aren’t working but there’s this one website that whenever you show a Bing ad on that website for your product it just converts like crazy and so few people are doing this that you’re actually gonna be in a really good position if you start optimizing like this because your competition is not gonna want to export an excel sheet and I mean it really takes 30 seconds but a lot of people are not willing to do 30 seconds of work so if you’re willing to do this you can skyrocket past your competition because they’re not willing to do this they don’t even know it exists they don’t even know this report exists but it’s so easy if you’re familiar with optimizing you know display campaigns at all this is gonna be a very easy process for you and if you’re not it’s easy to figure out just look at the web sites that aren’t converting and cut them out and then also instantly you can turn you can start being profitable and a campaign that you weren’t profitable before cuz you didn’t know that it wasn’t all syndicated publishers it was only this one that was dragging your whole campaign down let’s say it was a big let’s running on cnn.com or something and people on cnn.com don’t care about your product but Bing gives it a lot of priority because it’s a huge publisher it has tons of traffic so it’s just you’re spending 90 none of your syndicated budget on cnn.com but it doesn’t refer so then you cut cnn.com and all sudden all these little publishers that are way more profitable start to take priority and so you can easily just like skyrocket your profit with this method so let’s do a quick recap of the seven Bing ads profit activators number one separate your Bing and Yahoo and your syndicated in two separate ad groups every time you create an ad group from now on create one for Bing and Yahoo one for syndicated number to use the Bing ads editor download it for free it’s gonna change your life enough said number three test the keyword placeholder ads they can in a lot of instances they can massively outperform the normal whatever you came up with with your copy in my experience they almost always outperform whatever I come up with they’re copy because they’re so perfectly relevant to what the person is searching because they’re literally the keywords they used to search it’s just a no-brainer number four set up conversion data you absolutely have to do this if you’re not doing it go watch my youtube video on how to do it you absolutely need conversion data or else you’re just wasting your money or your clients money for sure number five segment data get comfortable especially segments for device type that’s gonna be the biggest differential thing in my experience other than syndicated and Bing but you’ve already taken care of that by separating them from the beginning so you won’t have to do segment number six keywords this strategy is isolate and eliminate isolate exact match and phrase match keywords and eliminate negative keywords just keep always look through your data every couple days look for new keywords coming in from your broad match campaigns and either isolate them or eliminate them depending on whether they’re somewhat relevant or completely irrelevant if they’re completely irrelevant add them to the negative keyword list if they’re somewhat relevant then just add them to an exact match or a phrase match and then just monitor them and see if that exact match or phrase match performs well and finally number 7 optimize your syndicated placements it’s gonna be a huge advantage if you’re not doing this and you’re running syndicated traffic it’s just gonna skyrocket your results because you might be wasting so much money on crappy placements and the other advantage of this is your competition is almost certainly not doing this unless they’re very serious about getting great results they’re gonna be too lazy to do this so it takes 30 seconds you export an excel sheet sort by cost per acquisition and then look through all the websites that aren’t converting just paste them into the exclusion list in your campaign or ad group options all right at this point thank you so much for watching I really appreciate your time and I want to ask to get cheaper clicks especially as your campaign runs longer and longer and how to write winning ads now I know I mentioned that keyword default ad usually outperforms whatever I come up with but that is not always the case especially when it comes to conversion sometimes the keyword default is a higher click-through rate but it doesn’t actually convert as well so there are some tricks to creating winning ads and the really cool thing that I learned about this in the last year or so most gurus or authors or whatever they make it sound so complicated like you have to have a copywriter blackbelt you know you have to descend from the mountain with your your glorious inspirational copy that just truly moves people or they talk about like getting emotional or whatever I think that’s a bunch of at least when you’re talking about headlines for PPC ads when you’re talking about search ads it’s not as important to hit their emotions or whatever if you can manage to do that great but what really matters most to the form that’s giving you the ads what they want is relevance so we’ll talk more about that in the in the actual section and if you join the program today but it’s not as
