Bonus: The “Gary Halbert Trick”

This is a strategy that I learned from Gary Halbert when I was studying to improve my copywriting skills.

He’s quite famous for it, and it’s basically this:

The best way to improve your copywriting skills is to spend time re-writing old, proven ads — word for word by hand.

I must admit, that I did this for several of the most famous ad campaigns of all time, and it definitely did improve my ability to write conversational copy.

If you’re really serious about upping your copy game, this is a no brainer – it essentially starts to re-wire your brain to think in “copy mode”.

It embeds the proven principles, structures, language, “power phrases” and layout of effective copy (ads that have sold millions and millions for many years) into your nervous system.

The more of these you write by hand (or even type by hand) the better you’ll get at copy.
