Steal Keywords From Competition
okay so finally we have the last method of gathering key words and that is by analyzing your competition so one of the easiest ways to get keywords that you know are valuable profitable and just get ideas for ad groups and keywords campaigns is to simply look at people who are doing it well people who are making money and just grab the keywords from them you can compete on the same keywords a lot of a lot of businesses are only doing SEO they don’t really do a lot of paid traffic so you can take the same keywords that are making money for them in SEO and then just use them you know creating offers or finding affiliate offers or whatever you’re doing to monetize the traffic you can start with keywords that already work based on these people who are already doing it successfully so I’m going to show you a free a bunch of tools a couple of them are free and then a couple of them are paid and you can use them to analyze your competition and actually just go ahead and steal their keywords so the first tool we’re gonna look at is a website and it’s also a browser extension called similar web it’s totally free to use they have a paid version that’s like a bit has a lot more features and and gives you more data but this is a really really good way to just get a baseline understanding of your competition and you know I don’t mean competition like ruthlessly I just mean other people who are successful in the niche that you want to go into or the niche that you’re in and what they’re doing that makes them successful it’s very easy to see what they’re doing which is which is quite awesome for us so I’ve chosen a very amazing marketing company in the paleo space called paleohacks they’re just they’re really good at every bit of marketing marketing they do they have lots of products and they have a really successful blog they have lots of social media just a really amazing company in a really huge niche so I’m going to use them as an example on all the diff our tools and just show you some of the capabilities here so the first tool is similar web I put in a one of their landing pages and it suggested a website I think similar web works best as analyzing a website one thing I noticed is that paleohacks has two different URLs they have their main one and then they have their blog and I think their blog is where most of their SEO keywords come from so I chose that so click I typed in the website there and clicked the blog website and it brings up this page just this really awesome data for free you can see this is a guess as to how much monthly traffic they’re getting from all their various traffic sources again just like I’ve said many times in this this is not an exact measurement but it’s their best guess and they have I don’t know whatever magic they use to determine and again it’s it’s more about the trends you know it’s more about how much what how does this compare to other sites once you start doing a bunch of research you’ll start to notice patterns of a lot of these different things so here’s just a general trend of their of their traffic an estimated 1.3 million visitors per month the average duration is these are all you know estimates on the top countries this can be really useful if you’re choosing where you want to send traffic from if you find that the person who the company that’s that’s doing what you want to model is getting most of their traffic from the United Kingdom then you would want this could help you to be incentivized to try out a campaign in Bing to United Kingdom or Australia if it’s if it’s a big part of their traffic and they’re doing what you want to do here’s another really interesting thing as traffic sources direct that usually means email traffic referrals that’s usually affiliates and search is what we’re aiming for here you can also see how how companies kind of split up their marketing or what their strengths are and their weaknesses are by seeing these guesses these trends of like about how much of their traffic comes from social you know Facebook and stuff how much comes from email I know they have a monstrous email list that’s for sure they’re really good at affiliates they’re one of the top vendors on Clickbank so they get plenty of referral traffic and then also search they’re really good at SEO so they get lots of search and then they’ll also show you some some bad guesses how much these companies are spending on what types of ads and stuff lots of really good information here to help you understand your niche so top referring sites these are all great for doing more research you can run the exact same process I’m about to show you with all of these different tools through these if these are their top five competitors according to I mean BuzzFeed that well most feed must have a lot of stuff about paleo in information about these are the top referring sites that send to paleo hacks according to similar web so you might want to just look into them this would probably be an awesome site to look into as well the nutrition washed out paleo plan that’s like a you know that’s almost an exact overlap what is with paleo so so you could do you could go to the website I believe that’s inside of similar web nope this just just loads the website but here I’ll show you an example of of that the browser tool so you can download a free browser tool from similar web that actually gives you while you’re browsing around the web you can start to start looking at sites in your niche or or the niche you want to go after mm-hmm and just see get these get a real quick glance at how well they’re doing with traffic the sources I mean which type of traffic they’re getting direct links search where where in the world their traffic is coming from who’s sending them a lot of traffic where do they send a lot of traffic and then this is this is really what we’re after here is top organic keywords and remember this is for a different website this is for paleo plant but they are also doing quite well here they’ve got a couple hundred visitors a month at least that’s pretty awesome and here’s some really good Paleo relevant keywords so it’s giving you their top keywords a similar web can track also shows you they have a strong presence on Facebook and then more similar sites you can do the exact same thing for so you just look at the search I think this is a paid feature will click on it and we’ll see ya okay so this is similar web pro they have a free trial you can you can get a lot of data for free and it will just kind of pull back the curtain and give you more of the data but we can get started with just the the top you know if you know the 8020 rule the top 5 keywords are probably where they’re getting most of their traffic or their most prized keywords so they’re good places to start if you’re paying attention to keywords in general you would know that Kakao while it may get them a lot of traffic would not be a good keyword to target because it’s only one word and it’s not a longtail keyword it’s not a good exact match it would be a broad match and it would probably be way too broad paleo recipes now that would be great for a broad match a phrase match and an exact match if you’re in the paleo world keto breakfast lower back stretches that’s kind of surprising coming from paleo hacks but I guess they must have some really good articles or whatever about that almond flour recipes that’s a great phrase or exact match probably not a great broad match it get a little – a little too out of hand here so this is this is most of them care about this is kind of interesting to you you know their audience gives you a brief kind of analysis of of the overall audience they’re in health which makes sense business games and food which makes sense here’s a little word cloud of things that their audience is kind of generally into recipes food health apparently they’re a bit of a religious crowd Church faith religious interesting so here’s a good good place to get some keyword the top the top keywords if you want to dig in then grab the paid version or another way is keep using the free version but just hop around to the different similar size because you’ll start to see you’ll start to see patterns this is a really cool feature a similar web as well click compare and it instantly compares two different web sites yet so here’s the traffic this is a really cool blog paleohacks vs nom nom paleo with some estimates of numbers just really nice comparison right away the traffic sources and then yeah here’s here’s their pitch for more with similar web pro so if you sign up for the pro then you get a lot more a lot more features but you can definitely get started by choosing a web site in your niche and either install the the plugin here and then well these are for similar web if he’s install the plugin it’ll give you a really quick glance and then you look here and you’ll see the top five keywords which are great great source of keywords and then if you hop around there their competition not far as a noble that would nuts yeah none of these probably just now non paleo it’s the closest but if you go to this website so you grab five keywords from there from paleo hacks and then go to nom nom paleo and do the same get the same analysis here and they’re doing well in search so okay these these are obviously not good to talk well they might be good it’s are good actually to test if people are searching for nom nom they might like your paleo offer instant pot recipes instant pot potatoes okay and then if yeah if you pay for more all right so that’s similar web it’s good to get a gist of it if you get the pro version you can just literally download all their keywords and pop those into your campaigns that’s a really good way to go the next free tool is good old Google Adwords Keyword planner so let’s go back to the first page here so once you log in to the keyword planner and and obviously the being keyword planner is very similar I’m just I’m not gonna show Bing because it’s basically the exact same thing and go ahead go ahead and use Bing or Google whichever one so this is the feature that I wanted to focus on for getting keywords specifically if you put in your landing page so I chose a specific landing page about homemade cinnamon toast crunch with almond flour this is an article from paleo hacks blog and then copy the URL of this let’s say this is our landing page put it in there and then I just learned about this actually from that Bing CPA course I told you about in the email only show ideas closely related I’m gonna try that and then click get ideas so these are the results I had okay so they’re pretty much the same so now this is Google is analyzing the keywords that are on this page on this landing page and giving you ideas for keywords based on that so this is a really good way to get coconut powder pancake recipe where to buy paleo bread that’s a nice long term longtail would be a really good exact match gluten-free bread flour that’d be a really good long long tail exact match it shows you how many people are searching for these things really good source for longtail keywords here analyzing individual landing pages or websites let’s just look at blog paleohacks calm and we’ll put that in as the landing page and click get ideas this will probably be more broad than like specifically focusing on bread okay so so now we’re looking at the bigger website in general we’re gonna get some different some different results here but what might used to be very useful here is the ad group ideas paleo plan with is an ad group paleo cookbooks so if you’re really just focusing in on selling a paleo cookbook then this is a great ad group with lots of law tail and you know good exact match and phrase match keywords here so you can literally just like we went through before you know you can add these to the plan you can click on them and then you can click copy to clipboard to just take those run them through key word mixer com create all of your variations of exact match and phrase match so that is a very powerful tool you can just do that as much as you want to change these options over here so run your competitions page through this this landing page thing and Google will just give you a lot of the keywords that that are relevant to that page which is pretty amazing so that’s free then we’ve got our good old friend SEM rush also very good at this type of thing you put in a keyword or you put in a domain and it will go and pick up all the keywords that that domain has been ranking for an SEO for years so just another just another great source of keywords so again this is there this is their free version so if you get the paid if you get the 7-day trial then you can see a lot more keywords but even just from this you can get ten I’m guessing that’s it one two three yeah some like ten really good keywords this probably won’t let us sort since it’s giving us these keywords that would kind of be a way of hacking the system a bit maybe let’s see huh all right chaos and pain blogspot not sure what that’s all about paleo carrot cookies that would be a great you know longtail keyword let me see if it does individual pages I think it just does buy the domain subdomains pages interesting maybe alright so we just did this page now that’s a bit bit too much for it I guess maybe with other websites I don’t I don’t know check out other URLs for that domain maybe I’ll click on one of those and see what that does so this is just taking us back to the paleohacks comm let’s let’s click on one of these URLs yeah an SEM Rush once again literally lets you download thousands and thousands of keywords they they’re a really great source for keywords for building out your campaigns and ad groups okay so this is the actual page keywords huh apple cider vinegar drink so that it is analyzing that page it’s telling you the position that this page ranks in Google for each of these keywords and how many searches a month and let’s look at view full report real quick the guns quotes in German oh yeah this is awesome so right here if you’re if you were selling a cider vinegar drink or you know you want to send people to a free report about apple cider vinegar benefits or whatever here are some really great keywords for that these are the users would all be good one of this would be a good broad match a good phrase match and a good exact match this would be really good phrase and exact match phrasing exact these would all be good apples ACV I guess that’s like a slang term that would be a little risky because there’s probably all sorts of abbreviations for a CV that people use I would probably not use that as a keyword at all B just because there’s going to be weird ACV stuff other languages or whatever mm-hmm if you added something else like a CV diet or something has an exact or phrase match you can you could maybe controls for some of that but I just wouldn’t have that it’s too broad mm-hmm vinegar diet maybe but now you’re starting to get away from the apple vinegar diet so I would move that into its own key its own ad group to be more specific and track specifically apple-cider diet maybe yeah that’s probably good benefits of drinking apple cider vinegar wow that would be an incredible long tail keyword for like a free report or an opt-in if you’re sending traffic to an opt-in and you’re gonna sell paleo stuff or you’re gonna or if you specifically if you build a product around apple cider vinegar then benefits of drinking apple cider vinegar would be an amazing longtail keyword you could target with phrase and exact match make an ad that says benefits of drinking apple cider vinegar it’d be really good relevance really good click-through rate probably high opt-in rate if your report call it benefits of drinking apple cider vinegar the top 7 benefits of drinking apple cider vinegar or whatever so that’s a really good example and it’s taken from just browsing around the pages that SEM rush has in a very big blog in this space and if they give you a whole bunch of different examples of this so let’s just look at one more real quick and then oh this looks great 20 easy paleo crock-pot recipes even that that whole concept is great for longtail and for exact match yep it’s given us specifically for this page so this is this is really awesome really really good source of specific ah I’ve reached my free 10 requests a day limit so yeah well you get the gist that would have been just as is useful if you’re in the paleo niche to you that would be a really awesome idea for a very focused create a free report or a guide or a video or something about this topic and then create an ad group that just targets this one specific idea very very focused there’s lots of traffic yeah this just looks looks like a great source there next we’re going to look at our final can Pettit of analysis tool kind of the ultimate in competitive analysis they literally have a feature where they like fight they actually like put two websites pitted against each other in keywords it’s super nerdy but but also very powerful for competitive research so we put in our our webpage there let me see if they do it for specific landing pages okay no they do looks like they do have more by domain so we’ll go a blog paleohacks com once again you know they’re gonna give you some results for free and then you’ll have to pay if you want to get the full many probably hundreds possibly thousands of keywords with all the data and rankings but it’s still a really good place to get started and to see their top keywords so that’s that spy foods big thing is they analyze the value really closely of the keywords all of them kind of do their own way but each of the tools as I’ve said has our own strengths and spy Foods is really focused on how valuable are these keywords so these are telling them based on SEO unsweetened coconut water unpasteurized coconut water best oil for cooking all really good keywords in the Paleo niche this oh that’s good let’s look at this competitors then we’ll look at the overview competitors is a really good one too so paleo hacks dr. axe living straw LIVESTRONG greatest uriel came calm so it’s comparing all other SEO traffic view SEO keywords let’s see what oh yeah I was thinking the key meant it was locked but I think it actually just stands for keywords did it work oh it’s telling you in the chart how many keywords it has let’s look at the overview mm-hmm so this is above paleohacks com it shows you how many keywords they rank for organically their growth over time page one keyword as well it’s a lot top organic competitors shared organic okay so this is their feature called combat that’s what I was talking about where course starting keywords most valuable keywords Himalayan salts that’s interesting estimated click value per month Wow newly ranked keywords these are all these are good keywords as well lower back stretches again natural laxatives brightened smile weightlifting for women weightlifting for women oregano oils anti-inflammatory food and yeah from here you can find more ideas from their competitors and run them through the other tools that I showed you pull out keywords and let’s see if they give us this one course starting keywords shared organic keywords okay hmm so these are the top five keywords that all three of those competing all four all three of those competing blogs share detox the liver is stevia sugar benefits all right so you’ll see a lot more patterns running through your own niche seeing what comes out through these tools but literally you can just literally if you don’t want to look into them that much just copy and paste keywords make sure your tracking is all set up and just let it run depending on your budget if you’re if you have a lower budget or more careful budget then you want to start with exact match and create landing pages and ads and ad groups that all cater to that exact the exact thing or if you have a bigger budget if you’re willing to explore more or if you want to go out and find you know the broadest audience then you could start off with broad match a little broader themes in your your keywords and niche or industry with just having the right research is really powerful the best people at running ads are very PPC ads are very aware of their keywords and cool thing about keywords is a lot of them never changed they’re still the same for five or ten years so keywords are very powerful very important and understanding them is gonna help you be smarter about which campaigns you set up which
